AAC expansion to 14 (adds underlined):
E: Tem, Navy, ECU, USF, Chrlt, FAU, UAB
W: Mem, Tuls, Tuln, SMU, Rice, UTSA, UNT

I believe Navy wants to move to the AAC West for Texas recruiting purposes. I believe Memphis will move to the AAC East.

Really no value for them in recruiting regarding what division. Navy is by appointment only so they really do not recruit the same way. They have a few advantages in some cases with no limit to initial counters and they get paid a salary monthly based on their rank at the academy.

Marshall now third from C-USA to join Sun Belt (espn)

Also on Friday, James Madison -- an FCS powerhouse that won the national title in 2016 and has made two title-game appearances since -- took steps to join the Sun Belt. The school board's executive committee passed a motion to pursue moving up to the FBS level and seek an invitation from the conference.

CUSA is crazy if they take in UCONN and NMSU. Liberty, I get. UConn, I can at least believe their basketball played a big role. New Mexico State doesn’t bring a damn thing to the table except a long road trip and another mouth to feed that will contribute nothing in return. Find someone else! Geez, go after Jax St; it would be better than NMSU.

College Football Playoff expansion talks tabled until Dec. 1, consensus needed by January on 2024 format (espn)

quote:

College Football Playoff expansion talks have been tabled again until Dec. 1, but the CFP's management committee needs to make a decision on eight or 12 teams by January if the format is going to expand in time for the 2024 season, CFP executive director Bill Hancock said on Thursday following an in-person meeting at the DFW Grand Hyatt...

I hope they decide on the top-8 with no auto-bids, and simply add a quarter-finals round played at #1's-#4's home stadiums. Let #9-#12 go to NY6 bowls.

Conference USA adding Liberty, Jacksonville State, New Mexico State, Sam Houston State, per reports (espn)

quote:

Conference USA announced Friday that it will add Liberty, Jacksonville State, New Mexico State and Sam Houston State on July 1, 2023, as the league tries to replenish its ranks after having nine schools announce plans to leave in the past month.

The Conference USA overhaul might not be done. Mid-American Conference presidents were meeting Friday with possible expansion on the agenda and Conference USA members Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee State as potential options, a person familiar with the situation told the AP, also speaking on condition of anonymity as the league discussions are private...

This looks for all the world like the ACC is about to go the way of the Southwest Conference of old. The B1G and PAC aren't going to honor this "pact" in any way that benefits the ACC. Those two have been joined at the hip since the 1940's, and they are far too self-absorbed and elitist to be in an equal partnership with the ACC.

Alabama’s 3 permanent opponents should be Auburn, Tennessee, and Miss St.
