Auburn has never in its history had to forfeit any football or basketball games while UAT has had to forfeit several games in both sports. Oh and congrats for being the last college football factory in America. The world laughs at you and your false pride.

Woodie,
Why are you so hateful to The Tide and its fans? Somebody, some where, at some time really did a number on you, and it's been eating at you for a long time...that's not physically or mentally healthy for a person to carry that around...just saying.

Not entirely true depending on perspective.

1. The Miami-Alabama Sugar Bowl was not the first bowl game pitting #1 vs. #2 for the national championship.

But it was the first time #1 and #2 met in a bowl game designed to bring those two teams together. All other post-season meetings between #1 and #2 were happy accidents. There was also an agreement between the Coalition and the Coaches Poll to award the AFCA Trophy to the winner of the game, no matter if the AP split and awarded their title to another team.

quote:

2. In 1994 #2 Penn State was unable to play #1 Nebraska due the Big 10 and/or Pac-10 not being a member of the bowl alliance. Same thing happened with Michigan and Nebraska in 1997. So 1992 was not the first year that bowl ties were completely out the window in favor of matching the best two teams together. I believe 1998 was the first year #1 and #2 could play in a bowl regardless of conference affiliation.

And this was the fatal flaw of the Coalition/Alliance. The Rose Bowl did not participate because they refused to release the Pac-10 or Big Ten champion to play in the national title game should one of them finish #1 or #2. They finally caved to the BCS after Penn State got screwed in 1994 and after Michigan split the title with Nebraska in 1997.

Just pointing the fact that Bama zealots substitute football "success" for their own failures, faults, foibles and lack of personal esteem or success. I love the state of Alabama however bama football keeps the state from changing. I suggest you and all bama zealots get a job, volunteer, read a book and stop your unhealty and counter-productive fixation on UAT football. Its a big world out there and nothing changes (except an increase in domestic violence) if bama losses a game.

Not all change is good. If you don't like it you can always move somewhere else or die. Which ever one is easiest for you.

No tv at all

While there was no TV, the games were shown in opposing team’s stadiums. Aside from Bama, I vaguely remember Florida fans got to watch that epic game in Gainesville.

I was young. We’re any of the games available on pay per view or was it strictly no tv at all?

No TV. No PPV either.

2004 sucked worse considering Auburn was an undefeated SEC team.

And the fact that anyone with a brain could see Choklahoma had no business being in that game against USC. We were a far better team than them.

Fun fact, Auburn was also on probation in 1957 which is a season they claim a NC.

No one counts 1957. Auburn has 1 national championship, in 2010, that’s it.

What about the Bama/Penn St Sugar Bowl? Didn't Bryant convince Paterno to play there so it could be 1 vs 2?

He’s got too much Bama in him. And by too much Bama in him, I mean his Bama uncle is inside of him.

I thought the Bama game had some sort of closed circuit broadcast to the Coleman coliseum and the Eaves coliseum?…

I looked it up, somehow they were able to do a broadcast at BDS and sold 47000+ tickets.

I don’t think jumbotrons were what they are now.

NCAA wouldn't even let us do that in 85. Which turned out to be a good thing since the UGA loss might be the worst in program history.

In 1985, Florida was stacked with NFL talent.

Florida beat AU, Georgia beat Florida, AU beat Georgia.

Weird.

We were #1 in the AP after beating Auburn. It's very likely that losing to UGA the next week cost us a title.

Perhaps, but they would have played that game anyway just like they did three years earlier. The Florida-Nebraska game after the 1995 season was the first time at least one team was pulled from bowl games they wouldn't have already been in to play in a game with national title implications.

Are we positive on this? I remember Nebraska (specifically Scott Frost) lobbying hard for at least a share of the national title after beating Tennessee in the Orange Bowl in 1997 when #1 Michigan was in the Rose Bowl against WSU.

I believe Nebraska took the Coaches and Michigan the AP, but it didn't *seem* like a share of the national title was automatic for the Huskers based just on memory.
