Auburn friends - Alabama Polytechnic Institute

Auburn friends... I noticed this year Auburn will have its name for 61 years. This is the same time period the school was called Alabama Polytechnic Institute (1899-1960)
Do old timers still refer to the university as Alabama Polytechnic or has Auburn become the more accepted term?

Considering the last person to graduate with the old name would be 81, I'm going with the latter.

My uncle graduated from there in the 50's. It says Alabama Polytechnic Institute on his degree, I saw when I was helping my Aunt clean out his stuff after his passing. Great man worked with Vaun Braun at NASA etc.. Anyway, I once asked him and he said they called it Auburn as long as he could remember. So I guess the only thing that really changed 61 years ago was what they print on the degree.

API and Auburn are both accepted.
A lot of fans refer to Auburn as API in the effort of slander, but no Auburn fan cares.
ETA: My grandfather graduated from Auburn during the API time frame after transferring there from Clemson. His class ring is pretty cool.

It was called "Auburn" colloquially for decades before the official name change and it was because of that that the name was changed.

I still have a practice football with "API" stamped on it. Coach Joel Eaves (Auburn basketball coach) gave it to me when I was a boy.
