Oklahoma and Texas have a much, much larger national fan base than UNC or UVA putting more eyes on the conference than adding UNC or UVA

Correct. ESPN isn't pursing OU and TX to sew up the OKC and Austin markets or any state markets at all. It's about the national viewership they will bring from week to week as members of the SEC. ESPN isn't stupid, and neither are the SEC brass.
