Creating this to discuss the ins and out of recruiting outside of the information for the recruiting year.
to start where things at on the other thread.
Clemson's rise came as FSU fell apart and Miami and VT being down. They recruited solid but wasn't recruiting any higher then AU until they made it to the playoff and really was a cake walk for them basically every year since because the conference has been trash.

If I'm remembering correctly they were the forever recipients of early season Gus . . .
September 17, 2011 Clemson, SC Clemson 38–24
September 1, 2012 Atlanta, GA #14 Clemson 26–19
September 3, 2016 Auburn, AL #2 Clemson 19–13
September 9, 2017 Clemson, SC #3 Clemson 14–6
. . . who gifted them even more than the big ugly team that sits between the two. Otherwise IMO they would of been out of the picture... and not a national power... if from strength of schedule alone.

Clemson is not the same as Auburn and anyone who cant see that just doesnt want to. They can bring guys in and get to higher places with such a terrible schedule every year. Really helps recruiting
We constantly play a top 5 schedule in the nation. Happened almost every year for Malzahn. It will now happen for Harsin.
Blue sky is great. "Hey, if they can do it, so can we". yea, maybe if we join the ACC or the AAC but its not the same competing like we do against who we do
Right now, Auburn has 1 4* recruit and a couple 3*'s. Uga already as a 5* and 9, 4*'s. The talent difference is getting larger and it will continue which is a big reason they are beating us most years.
You are not going to coach up 3* guys to beat blue chippers constantly. Its just not going to happen

And maybe never ever a Trevor Lawrence.

I will give Dabo credit for scheduling SEC teams. He has played who he should in Uga and AU. The teams he would recruit against. But the ACC did open up for him to walk through the door.
Much like it did for Tuberville. Everyone was down for a bit there or had average coaches and Tubs (we) didn't pounce and were satisfied just beating bama.
Many have said it and I agree the AU job is the toughest job in America. Non state named school, has the emipre in our state, sleeping Giant to our east that's waking up, and talent all around just have to be able to get it from the others.
The one thing so far that I do like about Harsin is his embrace of hard work. We will see how his culture plays out.

So somehow, you think Gus losing to Dabo created the monster that is Clemson now.. Did I read that right?
They are a national power now because a totally depleted, rebuilding Auburn program lost to them? Thats what you are getting at bro?

That’s pretty absurd. Clemson is because of Dabo and weak conference.
Cant overlook Dabo sent a team of scouts to Auburn to see our new athletic dorms to see why Carl and Montravious Adams didn’t like Clemson. They built their dorms on our blueprint. After success or failure every leader should info search on three things that went right and three things went wrong. Clemson made an effort to put money into their program and we haven’t. Gus flat out told Brandon Marcello after the championship loss that we didn’t need upgrades because he liked where our facilities were at. Stove was hot for Gus THEN. That’s when we should’ve pounced like Clemson did.

They didn't built up with one glorious uprising it was one step at a time.
So yep not getting knocked out of national prominence early on definitely helped them as the year went on and no one knows how their recruiting would have gone. It's definitely a given with GM as OC or HC it's been four straight losses.. and they've only had 16 losses during that stretch total (including bowls and championship games). So yeah another 4 losses starting the season could have been big. Instead of knocking off an SEC team with this conference's dominance.

This makes me sad. Hoping we get it turned around. The best coach in the world is gonna suck without players.

Aubie Spr96 you know that's blasphemous, right?

I’m willing to give Harsin time to acclimate to our region and to our team. This is what starting over is all about. The shite Gus pulled off in 2013 wasn’t normal. We are about to find normal. The boosters need to step it up too though. We now have a legally sanctioned wild Wild West. Bring back Tiger Prowl and get to work.

Don’t be lame, I was just starting to tolerate you a little bit.

Like I care.
I you haven't noticed I don't come to the board to go with the flow, to make others happy.
That's what's wrong with all social media interactions. If you don't bend the knee you get banned, shunned, ousted.
IDGAF, get it?
And for anyone that thinks recruiting is remotely going well even though we have picked up 3 players the past few days can eat shite cause they are wrong.

Clemson 247 Recruiting Rankings, 2008-2011: 9, 36, 27, 10
Both teams fired their HCs in 2008 (Clemson in mid-season).
AU's record under Chiz going into the 2011 Clemson game: 25-5

Have to remember entering into 2011 we only had 4 starters on offense and 4 starters on defense returning. Plus a team coming off a national championship that didn't know how to handle the spotlight. 2012 in the aTm game was the first and only time I've ever seen an Auburn team quit.
