If certain conferences want in they need to get better. Period.

But can they ever realistically catch-up? Automatic tie-ins and more at larges seems to me a way to keep interest and keep the game from being an regional sport. Otherwise the Bama's and Ohio State's will continue to dominate and the rest of the country loses interest.

It always has been a regional sport though. The South, Midwest, and Texas/Oklahoma care about college football win, lose, or draw, the East Coast and West Coast are a bunch of fairweather dipshits who only care if one of the local teams is in the top 5-10, and in the Northeast you have some older Catholics who half heartedly follow Notre Dame, transplants, and tens of millions of people who simply don't give a damn.

If they can't now an expanded playoff isn't going to help them. It will make it harder.

You're going to end up with a token G5, token Pac-12, and 10 teams from the other 4 conferences.

Bowls are done. They'll either be incorporated as playoff games or shut down further limiting exposure for those teams that need it to get their brand out.

As others have already pointed out, you'll probably see a regular season game dropped from the schedule by the P5. You'll also see no more Mercers on the 11 or maybe 10 game regular season schedule. That may sound good, but how many of those programs are going to shut down without that additional revenue - and every time one of them dies interest in the game dies a little along with it.

In terms of what's good for the sport, there's noting to like about a 12 team playoff at all.

Sounds like the same argument made for adding bowl games and more conference tie-ins. Did not build excitement and the same result.

Two teams will always play for the NC no matter the format.Adding more pretenders will not change that. The same teams will end up in the NC for the most part so after 10 other teams fall fall so will the interest once again if not your team.
