I just think it's crazy to think that Sewell is a better player than Pitts. Pitts is arguably the best player in the entire draft, and if he were a QB he'd be the consensus #1 pick. Sewell is very good don't get me wrong, but he's not Pitts.

I hear you. Opinions vary on this though. He stayed in school to prove that he could be a true TE and improve his draft stock which he has definitely done. It looks like the Falcons will have their choice between Lance, Pitts, and Sewell with the 4th pick or they could trade back. Sewell is just a freak athlete as well at LT and we could slide him or Matthews into the LG spot and sure up the OL quite a bit.

Here's what PFF said about them both. Not that PFF is the be all end all but they are a good baseline.

quote:

T PENEI SEWELL, OREGON
Sewell earned the highest single-season grade we’d ever given to an offensive lineman back in 2019 before opting out. Oh, and he was only 19 years old. The term “freak” doesn’t even begin to do him justice.

TE KYLE PITTS, FLORIDA
Yet another player who looked like a man among boys despite being relatively young. Pitts earned the highest grade we’ve seen at the tight end position last year and won’t turn 21 until this fall. He’s not just a tight end — Pitts can get open against anyone.

Lindstrom is the LG.

If Sewell becomes a Falcon he'll slide in at RG IMO.

But you don't take a RG at #4.

When did that play out. I thought he was on the right side.

The Athletic just came out with their top 300 rankings for the draft and they have Pitts as the #2 player and Sewell as the #5 player.

1. Lawrence
2. Pitts
3. Wilson
4. Chase
5. Sewell
6. Waddle
7. Lance
8. Fields
9. Smith
10. Surtain.

Dane Brugler has been on the Pitts train for a long time.

He finally got on the Ojulari train and brought him from outside the top 50 to inside the top 20.

We have a GM who knows that you draft the best player available in the first round. The former cock sucker would have drafted some offensive linemen from Tulane projected in the second round thinking he was so smooth.

He never really reached too bad and a lot of his shock picks turned out to be decent players - Keanu Neal - when healthy for example. With that said - His OL picks never really met their lofty draft status.

Trading up for Takk was atrocious, and his second round projects (Collins, Hageman, Oliver) didn't pan out. He also traded two very valuable picks to reach for McGary. Dimitroff didn't value mid round picks, and he often reached for needs instead of drafting the best player available. That's a huge reason why he doesn't have a job anymore.

Such a stupid pick. It's plain to see that Matt Ryan was ruined forever by the SB collapse. Mac Jones could have been a Falcon instead of a Patriot. Never change Georgia sports--the nation needs the laughs.

There are much more interesting NFL teams to follow than the loser Falcons.

Mac Jones is Matt Ryan reincarnated. I believe the Falcons would have drafted Lance if he was on the board, but he wasn't. Pitts was the best player on the board at that point, and the Falcons took him. Taking the best player available is such a refreshing change of pace and it is something Dimitroff rarely did. Ryan, Julio, and Ridley are the only times I can really remember him going BPA.

This team needs a full scale overhaul and should be focused on acquiring as much talent as possible. Ryan's contract means he's here for another 2 years or so. I think they might go for the QB next year.

Coming in hot.

What makes you want Jones so bad? He was the 4th QB taken I believe, so NFL scouts and owners weren’t crazy high on him. Pitts is as safe and guaranteed as we could get.... and he’ll contribute for years.

Lawrence and Wilson were clear #1 and #2 QB’s. Maybe Lance and Jones pan out to be good NFL QB’s, but with Jones mobility issues and Lance not playing against very good competition, neither were as guaranteed production guys like Pitts is.

I like the pick given the circumstances.
