As a college football fan, you have to hope Devonta Smith is drafted over Ja'Marr Chase

I want Chase to be the guy but long term, its better for the game.

Gotta disagree. Chase's draft position isnt really relevant to Smith's decision. Smith was a borderline 1st round pick last year and massively improved his draft stock. Not to mention winning a Heisman and National Championship
Long story short, both guys made a reasonable decision that worked out for them

Nah, I don’t think it matters really.
I love Smitty, but looking at Chases size and speed it would be really hard to pass on him.
It doesn’t mean that Smitty won’t be better, but it’s just the logical thing unless you think Smitty playing his final year out means he’s a better guy for the locker room.
Both guys are franchise receivers though imo.

As a college football fan, I couldn't care less where they are drafted.

The amateurism case before the Supreme Court right now is going to have a huge impact on the College game. HUGE. In this process, more and more young people will skip years of college play (or skip college altogether) to protect their bodies/investment.

I don't understand your point of it being better for the game.

Chase is basically the first consensus high draft pick to sit a season out.
Covid or not, if Smith didn't pass him up with everything Smith did, it shows that NFL teams don't give a damn if you quit or not and we'll see other top tier juniors do the same.
Thats bad for the sport IMO.

Now that’s true, I wasn’t looking at it from that perspective. I think guys will play though if they think their team is in the running for a title though.
Chase must have known LSU wasn’t ready for a title in 2020, or he was content cause he just won a title.

Oh ok. Well Chase knew he was a first round if he sat out, and Smith wanted to add value. I think they both probably made the best business decision for themselves.

I disagree.... both made decisions based on their draft stocks at the time. It worked out for both of them. Chase is a special talent and most would agree had nothing to prove by playing another season.

Well I guess this is a decent point. But otherwise I don't care.

Another useless thread.

I agree, however it'd suck if you drop an early game and two or three great players opt out.

Of course they dont. It's a business.

Same goes for Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields.
College football in 2020 would've been undoubtedly worse if both sit.

Not much of a business model if you don't care if your future employees quit when they feel like it.

As soon as Chase is drafted in the T10 another handful of star players will opt out. And more, and more over time. I cannot believe I agree with Sidewalk on anything

I agree, its inevitable either way but it helps if they see the "what have you done lately" factor matter.
