In only one season, freshman Brandon Miller left his mark on the program leading the 2022-23 Alabama team to historic achievements. Miller’s personal accolades included SEC Player of the Year, SEC Freshman of the Year, SEC Tournament MVP and AP/Sporting News first team All-American. The 6-foot-9 forward from Antioch, Tenn., grew up an Alabama fan thanks to his dad, Darrell, who played football for Gene Stallings in 1991. It’s no doubt that years from now @brandmillerr will be revered in the same regard, if not more, by this generation of fans like the Baby Boomers remember Leon Douglas and Reggie King, Generation X has Ennis Whatley and Derrick McKey, and Millennials have Erwin Dudley and Mo Williams. So Brandon Miller is here to remind you the 2023-24 basketball season tips off in 24 days. (Another testament to Miller’s great season is Antonio McDyess, who also wore No. 24 and was drafted second by the L.A. Clippers, is an honorable mention)

WCC Preseason Coaches Poll picks Saint Mary's to win the conference. When is the last time that wasn't an auto pick for Gonzaga?

Gonzaga has won the regular season and conference tournament 11 of the last 12 seasons, so picking anyone else just seems like they're trying to be edgy.

Mac says we feel good about Jase but is far from a guarantee.

Thinking right now is that we are leading. However, his dad played at MSU so as get close u never know how these type of recruitments are going to shake out when time to actually pull the trigger. I would say cautiously optimistic but not 100% or anything.

Jase Richardson is committing on Sunday and it sounds like we are in a good spot. Not saying he's a Bama lock, but I like our odds. If we miss on Jase, things could get interesting at the guard spot in this class with Zoom and Boogie being the only others on our big board that could really play in a true PG/CG role.

Things continue to sound really positive with Derrion Reid. We are the leader in the clubhouse by all accounts. He will OV here next weekend. Hopefully he continues to stay in Asa's ear about teaming up in Tuscaloosa.

Seems like we are making a very strong push for Asa Newell and have closed the gap on Georgia considerably. Sounds like it is a lot closer to 50/50 than it was just a couple weeks ago. His connection with Derrion Reid certainly seems to be helping. That would be an unbelievable pull if we are able to get both. That would make Sherrell the third highest rated recruit in our class according to 247C.

Sounds like a Boogie Fland decision could be coming as soon as next week. I really wanted him in this class, but I don't see that happening (especially if we get Jase). Boogie is going to be a really good college player imo.

I assume landing Jase would pretty much take us out of the Zoom Diallo sweepstakes even though I don't think we are really a true threat to get him anyways. Seems like he's going to stay out West.

Amier Ali is still technically on our board, but I don't think we are actually trying to get him. He'll end up somewhere else, maybe Arizona State.

Billy Richmond is still scheduled to OV here next week (same weekend as Derrion Reid), but that visit may not even happen imo. He looks like a major Kentucky lean and is in Lexington this weekend for their Big Blue Madness event. I wouldn't be surprised if his OV here gets cancelled and he commits to UK. Either way, I think he'll end up at UK regardless.

Last person on our big board is VJ Edgecombe. He is the sixth rated recruit in the country according to 247C and is scheduled to OV here on 11/4. He cancelled his OV this weekend to Michigan ahead of his OV to Duke next weekend though. That makes me think he's going to end up a Blue Devil.

After all of that, let's have some fun with the class calculator. For reference, Missouri currently has the #1 overall recruiting class. They have one 5* and four 4* commits. Those players are ranked #26, #54, #79, #99 and #121.

If we get Jase on Sunday we will move up to the #2 class in the SEC and #15 overall.

If we add Derrion Reid to the mix we will be #2 in the SEC and #2 overall.

If we really go nuts and get Asa Newell on board we will be #1 in the SEC and #1 overall with four commits. Those players are ranked #8, #16, #22 and #35.

Alabama's highest rated recruits all time according to 247 with this potential class added in:

Collin Sexton .9973
Asa Newell .9965
Brandon Miller .9952
JD Davison .9947
Derrion Reid .9946
Richard Hendrix .9933
Aiden Sherrell .9916
Jaden Bradley .9905
JaMychal Green .9904
Devonta Pollard .9877
Charles Bediako .9868
Kira Lewis .9865
Jase Richardson .9860
Levi Randolph .9830
John Petty .9809
Rylan Griffen .9805
Josh Primo .9783
Alex Tchikou .9771
Sam Walters .9769
Alonzo Gee .9769

I've been over at on3 the last few days. It's a pretty good hoops thread.

But one thing makes me laugh. I know Mac has given some good info. But the amount of knobslobbing is hilarious. It's got a culty kind of vibe.

And it's not just that board. It's any board with a connected poster giving info. There's always plenty of thank yous, which are cool and polite. But then there's always a few posters that would enthusiastically strap on some kneepads.

In their defense, our pay sites have always been fricking terrible when it comes to basketball content so anything more detailed than a generic "Alabama's staff feels good about their chances" is like gold. Especially recruiting info coming from someone who appears to have a reliable connection inside the program. On3 at least seems to be trying to do better about it though. They put out a pretty good amount of content to the point that I'm almost willing to give them some of my money.

No question. They sent a guy to the Montverde basketball practice to interview Asa. They see the interest and are actively trying to be the most popular Bama team site. Not a surprise. The BOL guys have taken over at every place Shannon Terry has started.

On3s basketball coverage is very good. Literally all their writers report on basketball, even Bone.
I enjoy their stuff.

Alabama basketball has another closed-door scrimmage set to take place before the 2023-24 season starts.

For a second consecutive year, the Crimson Tide will face TCU in a preseason matchup in October, sources with knowledge of the scrimmage told The Tuscaloosa News. The scrimmage vs. TCU will be held in Birmingham.

The matchup with TCU is one of two preseason scrimmages for Alabama; the Crimson Tide also has a charity exhibition game against Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on Sunday, Oct. 29.

Not sure on the exact date yet, just know that it is in October. Seems like it will be sometime in the next two weeks.

I need to tell myself not to melt if it’s bad. We got destroyed in it last year and had the best team in school history.

So it means nothing.

Just don’t wanna melt like we did when we got destroyed by JSU under Avery. And Daniel Giddens had like 7 fouls in 5 minutes
