College football is in an overall death spiral.

Yes it is, along with the rest of America.

I don't know how colleges and NCAA are going to be able to manage this.
The competitive imbalance it creates goes against all amateur rules
I also think it's time for the Power 5 to break away and govern themselves
It's time for Power 5 only schedules
My big concern is what it does to fan support as well
If you are not careful you will lose your fanbase

Completely agree.
I really agree with your entire post. With these new rules college football is going to change forever, and I don't think they realize what they're getting themselves into.

I agree with that, but what will happen to those programs who rely on games like ours to fund their programs?

I was totally unsurprised at the utter stupidity expressed throughout that article. They think they can keep NIL payments from becoming thinly disguised salaries? And they’re going to make sure the universities offer the same NIL promotion assistance to kids on the rowing team as they do on the football team? Who in the hell wears the jersey of a stud rower, other than their family? And they’re going to set up a commission to review how all the income is broken down by race and gender? Jesus, the Babylon Bee couldn’t write anything sillier or more predictable than that.

first, I'd like it shown to the public how much these players already do get paid.
there is already a ton of resources and actual direct, legal payments made to these players.
as a former ncaa athlete there should be changes, but flat out paying players more under the public guise that there is currently no payments is wrong.

I've noticed that humans sure have a hard time governing themselves.

I really don't give a shite about what they currently get.

lost me right here
And I am 100% in favor of athletes being able to do a promotion for your local Chevy dealer and get paid to do it.
Hell I dont give a shite that Javonte Smart apparently\might have got paid to enroll at LSU, or any other college athlete.

I'm tired of the narrative that athletes don't have anything
All athletes have the best of everything the universities offer including access to dining rooms where every meal is basically catered which includes all the women's teams
They have state of the art facilities and anything they need
First thing the NCAA needs to do is eliminate all these archaic rules so that the athletes can benefit
If a restaurant owner wants to give a hamburger to the star running back, who cares
If a clothing store wants to give a basketball player a tshirt to wear to support his store, who cares
It's the trivial things that are ridiculous
As far as the non Power 5, most use student fees to support their programs anyway and those schools are going to fall even further down the hierarchy when NIL kicks in
Will NIL spread the wealth talent wise
Is Ohio St going to be able to sign 2 top QB's knowing one could go to Maryland instead and earn NIL money instead of sitting behind another QB while not earning anything?

What these idiots are going to end up doing is killing the female and Olympic sports at universities. Then they will cry about fewer females getting athletic scholarships.

A football player doing a car commercial takes away a female scholarship how?

When did I say that?
I am referring to idiots that think the university should be required to pay the players.

This is great news for NCAA 2022

I don't think any of these bills are requiring that.

Ok maybe I missed something but the bill allows endorsements basically. I don't know how people view this as a bad thing.

People who push this bill forget that even if athletes can make money off NIL, they still can't use the school's name, logo, or uniform in the ad.
Only a few elite players have the name recognition to make big money off NIL. In 2019, outside of Trevor Lawrence maybe doing Pantene commercials, or Tua shilling for Dole Pineapple, who else had the face and name recognition nationally?
Now it's true that locally players might be able to show up at a shopping mall and sign autographs for a few bucks. But not only will this expand the gap between the elite schools and the rest...it will expand the gap between football and other athletes, and even more between males and females. Swimmers and track athletes will never see a dime off NIL. In fact, probably fewer than 5% of all college athletes will make any money at all.
Alabama has approximately 260 athletes on scholarships. How many will be able to make even a few bucks?
