Sorry to pass along that Andy passed away yesterday. Had cardiac issues.

Rest in peace " My Friend".

Some of my favorite memories as a student were going to Andy’s the morning after a night in 5 Points and crushing an Astronaut. Andy was always friendly and his deli is so comforting.

Andy’s > Groucho’s

Dang. I ate many sandwiches there when my sis was in school. I'd take one back to my brother when he was a freshman at the Citadel...

There are now no more Andy deli in town. The one on parklane, which he gave to his bf Albert, has now changed names however if you go down Parklane and turn behind waffle house by farrow rd there is a strip of stores and Alberts daughter has a deli there with the same Andys food.

I loved Andy's Deli. Best place for a sandwich after a night in 5 Points. Does anyone remember the name of the hippie bar across the street from Andy's beside Papa Jazz and Pita Pit?

Blue Cactus is gone. Yesterdays is gone. Grilled Teriyaki is gone. Andy has passed away.

5 Points is unrecognizable these days.

Goatfeathers is still open. I know at one time that the owner of goatfeathers also owned the Art Bar.I also know he was a jerk that tried getting out of paying his bills.

The change to 5 points is even more shocking to me then you younger fellows. Rockefellers is gone ( I once told a band playing there they should change their name because they were going nowhere with it. They played in Columbia alot. They laughed and kept their name....Red Hot Chili Peppers)
1st bar I went to in 5 points was Don's in 1983 which was across the street from elbow room.
During my time there was a unwritten rule that the black thugs stayed from mlk park over and they didnt come a street over to 5 points. Call me racist all you want but the fact is when the black gangs came to 5 points its demise was written. In fact all the bar shootings anywhere in Columbia are always black hangouts... go march on that shite.

The pos punks saw 5 points as a new breeding ground of crime. Drunk students are easy to rob and with the hood directly in 5 points back yard its easy to get away. When the white girl was shot and paralyzed the punk shooters mom came out that he wasn't a thug well the State paper printed my response where I went off on her and pointed out the reasons her son was a pos thug. Society is terrified to call out black crime. Fact is we have a group that is 13% of the countries population but commit over 50% of the crimes . Pointing out facts is not racist.

Let me also point out that I'm biracial and was told ( by my biological family) that I was put up for adoption because they were worried I wouldn't come out white enough so I've had true racism effect my whole path of life.

Leon Lott shut down a few clubs up Two Notch Road around the time you were an undergrad. The bad elements went from there to 5 Points. The problem with fighting gangs and violence in Columbia is the city is 42% black and over 70% Democrat. Politicians refuse to wade into the issue for fear of being accused of racial profiling or something similar. Look at Dick Harpootlian. He'd rather try and shut down bars in 5 Points than address the problem of black gangs. So large parts of Columbia will remain dumps because the city's political class is too cowardly to address a controversial issue.

I would give you 10,000 upvotes if possible. Thats the whole issue in America everyone is to worried about stating the obvious because it may hurt some feelings and instead of meeting the issue head on we would rather blame every social issue instead of the truth.

Honestly I was thinking no more Andy or his best friend Albert, who's personality matched Andy). Don't know if anyone will carry the 5 points location but it won't be Andy's to me anymore.
