I think we should be very hesitant to accept every bit of intel offered by our insiders, particularly over at TBS, as fact.

The rumors that Hilinski lost his competitive edge due to a harsh breakup may have had some merit in the late summer, but it is indisputable that Bobo practiced favoritism towards Hill before he even started competing for the job in the spring.

With Muschamp giving autonomy over the offensive depth chart to Bobo at the beginning of the year in hopes that it meant it could save his job, we have almost certainty that it was Bobo who decided to keep playing Hill, despite the overwhelming evidence by the 5th game that Hill just plain sucks.

Even if we were running a "reduced" version of Bobo's offense to accommodate our shitty WRs, there is no way it was completely over the head of Hilinski. There is nothing complicated about that offense. Furthermore, after the LSU-A&M-Ole Miss stretch and the season was lost, I don't understand how we can still be supportive of a guy who chose not to adapt in hopes of better results to raise morale and recruiting allure. He was even given an out to make a QB change with Kevin Harris being godly.

Spurrier would just throw guys out onto the field to see if they could do better than someone who started over them, and it sometimes worked, but at least he gave it a shot.

The insiders at TBS, who put out a lot of information that is often circulated on this board and Gamecock Twitter, have one goal: to keep Gamecock fans reading their site. To do this, they have to present the decisions of the administration and the coaches as almost infallible to give us all warm fuzzies about our program. If they had outright claimed that Hill blows donkey dick after the LSU game like they should have, they would be jeopardizing their own jobs by using their access to the program to shite on it. They had to frame it as Hilinski just not being up to snuff.

The bottom line in this whole mess is that Hilinksi had no real opportunity to show what he can do at SC. He was hampered by an anemic offense under McClendon, dealt with numerous injuries as a result of poor protection last year, and was screwed out of a chance to play by Bobo bringing in his own QB.

If anyone is in doubt about the Hilinski/Bobo dynamic, all you have to do is read what Hilinski wrote that I posed above. The silence on the (Bobo) issue is deafening.

I think Wes Mitchel said it best yesterday. At the core we have an OC who is best friends with our former hc. He knew that not winning was going to cost his best friend not only his job but likely his last opportunity to be a hc at this level. If you really think bobo didn't do everything that he could to win i just don't know what to tell you

I read all of this hoping for link or a name..... i am disappointed all this amounts to is hearsay and unverified opinion that is being used to slander a coach and a player.

Be better than this.

He not only couldn't beat out Hill but he didn't even beat out a true freshman QB in Doty.He didn't beat out Jake Bentley. Im not a Hilinski hater. I like the kid. But i cant see the coaches not playing him if he was the best of the 3. Not with jobs on the line.
