TCU 247 folks confirmed it and said it’s because of their team and COVID spikes.

That's what someone said on Twitterz, but it looks like they were full of it because the 'send off' for the team was supposed to be at 12:30 according to an article I found. Surely they knew by then.

Had the buses lined up and ready to go today and they cancelled an hour before we were going to leave for the airport. I heard there will be a team meeting this afternoon. I imagine we will hear if the season is over by tonight.

I'm sure the logistics of getting an entire team down there unexpectedly within 2 days just wasn't going to work.
They allowed teams to make their own bowl matchups this year if they wanted, but they have to be played by 12/31.

That seems like the only realistic scenario to me at this point. Something with a team relatively close to Fayetteville.
