.. With the clown show going on. He's got $50M and his integrity in tact and it's AU looking like the keystone cops.

Starting to wonder how much his job performance may have been affected by the alleged actions of Steele and Co.

A secondary effect of these outrageous buyouts may end up being that newly-rich guys like Gustav may decide that they’ve made enough money and start breaking the code of silence that prevents most of the coaching fraternity from exposing their former employers.

I mean, back in the day, the $600k we paid Terry Bowden to not name names publicly wasn’t nearly as big a deterrent as the knowledge that no one would hire him if he ratted AU out, for fear that he’d eventually do the same to them.

Once that $10.5 million check hits Gustav’s account in January, whats stopping him from blasting everyone at AU who stabbed him in the back?

I don't buy this rumor for a minute. If there's any truth to it at all, it is probably vastly overblown. What probably happened is Rane or someone asked Steele what he thought and Steele prolly said "offense needs to improve." Then it gets out that Steele is "going behind Gus's back." Making an idle comment is much different from "going behind Gus's back to take over as HC."

I don't think Steele had anything to do with Gus's job performance. Steele didn't make him hire Morris, for instance (not that I think Morris was the problem either). Steele didn't make him hire that 25 year old kid for OC (forget his name). Steele didn't make him hire Lashlee or Lindsay. Steele didn't fail to develop JJ or White or Stidham. Steele didn't force him to run super simple route trees or run up the middle on every 1st and 10. Steele isn't responsible for other coaches talking to ESPN anonymously trashing Gus's offense and talking about how easy it was to predict.

And I don't buy for a minute that Gus's assistants (any of them) were mandated to be hired by the GOB's. Someone said in another thread they made him hire Ellis Johnson. I know for a fact this is false and Gus wanted Johnson from the first day he got to AU. Johnson was an old Spurrier guy who really helped Spurrier's D's back in the day and I think Gus wanted him for that reason.

All Gus had to do was keep getting dragged by bama 2 out of 3 years and beating uga once a decade.

How funny is that?

Bama fans were scared of Gus I know a few that are glad he is not at Auburn and are not worried about who we get.

This is the most little brother shite ever.

Who gives a damn what bammer fans think? We need to focus on what’s right for Auburn, not what scares bammer fans.

I don’t think it’s Steele’s fault he couldn’t evolve on offense, refused to recruit HS OL, and couldn’t develop a QB.

The clause in his buyout agreement that prohibits him from doing so.

Ah. I haven’t read his actual extension, didn’t know he had a “hush money” clause like Bowden did.

I wonder if every school includes similar restrictions on post-employment behavior.

Yes. Most private companies do too.

Any attorney worth their grain of salt, has that line on an "F" function key.

Gus likes the security of that 10 mil in the investment account. He's not going public to take that hit.
