I hate to see RBs that give up a first down to try to make an additional five. Cook does this a lot....

He's got far more additional yardage from his cuts than he's lost.

Someone yesterday said he did this repeatedly...which simply isn't correct.

I think it was Cook who gave up a first down at Kentucky.....although it may have been someone else. Whoever it was, had they planted their foot and gone straight up the field we would have had a first down, but they went to the sideline and got caught setting up a 3rd and 1 situation. That kind of stuff drives me crazy and can cost you games. There are times to go for additional yardage and times to plant your foot and take the one yard and first down.
Situational running is not Cook's forte. That said, he has protected the ball much better this year and seems to be driving with power more and not going down on first contact, which is a welcome addition.

Wasn't me. I wouldn't say it is repeatedly, though. he does give up first downs to go for a homerun sometimes. When it is first down you can do that. When it is 2nd or 3rd down get the first down. Don't set your offense up for a 3rd and 2 or 4th and 1 when you could have gotten the first down.
