Has Auburn learned it's lesson yet?

It's time to get back to Pat Dye style football. Hardnosed football. Get rid of the soft gimmicky shite. And that starts with that type of coach. Dye knew it and that is why he wanted Smart over Malzahn. And he was right. Say what you want but Georgia with Smart and Tennessee with Pruitt are better programs and they are ascending. Can you say that about Auburn?
Were any of you really shocked at what you saw last night? I wasnt. If that beatdown didn't show you the discrepancy in the programs nothing will. Anyone with eyes and an objective outlook has seen this discrepancy growing for at least 5 years. But an occasional victory over Saban and those blinders stay on for many. Sad that so many have been willing to settle. Some can't see the forest for the trees. The sole objective should not be Beat Alabama but Compete for Championships annually. Become a consistent program. You would have thought after watching another pathetic performance against Minnesota that would have opened eyes or altered minds towards a change not only needed in coach's but philosophy going forward. Unfortunately this was a very expensive lesson to learn and it starts with 49 million. And the sad part is that lesson hasn't been acknowledged yet by the powers that be. How much longer will it take? Auburn has squandered time and resources and now it finds itself woefully behind in this nuclear arms race known as SEC football. Many have the argument that Auburn can't afford that buyout. My question is: Can Auburn afford not to make that buyout?
Maybe it cant. Don't do it and the discrepancy in programs grows wider. That contract has really screwed Auburn. Malzahn has not produced in that contract, he has failed Auburn. The decisions made by Auburn leadership are to blame. You might say that Auburn is its own worst enemy.

A tough, hard nosed, offense that runs the ball down the defenses throat and does tells the defense where the ball is going and then runs it successfully anyway.
You just heard a description of Auburn's offense in 2009, 2010, 2013, and 2014.
The question is why we don't play that way anymore!!
Who cares if that offense would not work in the NFL it worked great in the SEC.
Bring back the 2013 and 2014 offense!!!
Bo can run it.

I would love a fresh start with a coach who has fire in his belly, not paranoia.

We tried the pat Dye smash mouth I formation football in 2012. Is that what you want? Or is this just hypothetic? There is a reason very few teams run that style?
I agree this team is soft in the trenches but I don’t think going old school is the answer there are plenty of physical spread teams.
I will still say our DTs are playing pretty decent Truesdell and Newkirk. The rest of the line is pathetic. Our DEs are atrocious. If Big Kat wants to be a leader he better get his group together. I would like to see Burks and Butler get some snaps to gain experience and move Wooden back to SDE.

The major difference in those squads vs recent squads is the offensive line. The system does not work with an average or poor offensive line and it's showing.

We saw early on, when the Bulldogs would snap the ball by the time the RB got to the line, there WAS no DL. They had been pushed off the line by at 2-3 yards.
The DEs on all those running plays were no factor as their OL was gashing us between the tackles.
When your safeties make 27 tackles, your front 7 are getting blocked and pushed around.
On the participation list I saw no Handy, Hardy, Butler. Are they hurt or they are not ready?
And you are right though on the DEs on passing downs. I never saw one pressure from the ends. Did TD even play (just kidding, I saw him on the field one time)....
I realize we played better D in the second half, but how much of that was GA sitting on a 3 TD lead?

A lot was UGA sitting on the lead and running the ball and playing ball control to limit possessions.
I still think our primary DTs are playing decent they just aren't making any wow plays. They are stalemating the OL or the opposing teams guards. However neither are requiring a double team so the centers are able to get up into Britt. With the speed at star and OLB our DEs have got to stuff inside and hold leverage outside. Our DEs are going way to far up field on run plays. Probably just trying to make a play or cause pressure if it a pass play but you have to stop the run first and they are horrible at leverage and bend around the edge.
Britt and Zakoby are playing pretty damned good considering. Pappoe I don't like lined up on the end of the LOS. It takes his sideline to sideline speed away. I understand what they are trying to do but if you want him at Buck to rush the passer put him there. The DBs are playing pretty danged good except possibly Tutt. I'll give Peters a pass this past game new position and thrown in expectantly. Sherwood, McCreary, and Britt are the only standouts as of now. Simpson had a great first week but got many more to go to truly give me confidence that he's a game changer.
