Mathis is going to start

I don’t know how you don’t give him another shot. Daniels isn’t ready to play 4 quarters and obviously the coaches see something in Mathis that they like. He’s a dream sized qb with some mentality issues from his past. I think that hit he took really really threw him off plus the penalties. If he’s looking the same put daniels in. But I say he gets the start and may even look better than we hoped.

I say we go with a 2QB set just to mindfrick them.

Well we KNOW what mailman is gonna do. He’s a calm, composed 3* pro style ab. He’s a safe bet to get some first downs and with luck some TD’s, but there’s no X factor. Mathis has the tools, he needs to put it together mentally. Daniels obviously has the tools too, but not game speed ready yet. Would hate to put him in immediately and him have 1 brain fart and we all melt

He’s not ready and doesn’t have a grasp of the offense. No way you don’t start Bennet after last week. If he struggles we’ll see who comes in.

That's the way I see it - Bennett starts. That game has been very close and turnovers can play a huge factor. It's too bad we didn't have the warm-up games against Coastal Carolina and Western Carolina this year because it would have been great to iron out these QB issues in those kind of games. Should be an interesting game. Hopefully we can run the ball and take some pressure off the QB's.

I’m pulling for Mathis but he needs to pull it together fast as Auburn won’t be pulling punches.

Mathis is not going to start.

I personally don’t think so. The game hasn’t slowed down for him yet. The offensive line was terrible in the first half and compounded the issue. Either his line or Mathis were not calling protections correctly or straight up missing them. He didn’t know where to go with the ball pre-snap and took too long to get it out when he did have time. That’s the life of a first time starter.
I think they start Bennet to stop Auburn from stacking the box. When the line settles down by drive 3-4 they will probably insert Mathis for a series, He can play but needs the game to slow down and make quicker decisions. That comes with time but we need to set him up to be successful, not throw him to the wolves.

saturday's game will only speed up with AU on the other side.

I think he starts too. He must do things in practice that the other guys don't do.

He didn't do that bad. Most of his positive plays were called back due to penalties. I doubt Stetson gets in if we don't commit any penalties in the first half.

Mathis will not start. Why would you even think this??
Mathis may play if we get a big lead but no way he starts.

If Mathis ever wins us a game against a good opponent I will be very surprised. I've yet to see Mathis throw with touch. Mathis can throw deep but I don't know if he can use trajectory to drop the ball over linebackers.
I thought that Monken prefers the intermediate passing game. Mathis doesn't seem to fit that offense. We have better options in Bennett and Daniels.

Trial by fire or closely managed development? I think the former is overrated.
Not to mention the #1 priority is winning. There are some real advantages to having Mathis out there, but if the guys need someone to get them in the right place and focused Mathis has to be ready to do that. Only the coaches know if he is.
Coaches know better than any of us who is most ready.
Solution may be to start Stetson and after a few drives bring in the other guys.
As was said earlier. #1 win. #2 put guys in the best position for long term success.

I want a 4 WR set trips to one side 20 yard line and in Pickens single WR side, 6'8" Big 0, 6'6" Mathis, 6'5" Landers. The route combos/trick play potential would be hilariously unfair.

quote:Kirby was really quick to defend him in his press conferences and he isn't wrong. A lot of what went wrong wasn't on Mathis.
Why would you even think this??

Tell that to Bennett who saved our asses and was clearly more efficient at running our offense.
Posted on 10/1/20 at 7:56 am to lewis and herschel
I'm sure Kirby already has.

Slow start vs Auburn and we lose.

to be fair, they really only score in the 1st qtr, 1st half against us
