I think we’ve all had the gut feeling that he simply hasn’t been the first guy bc of the injury. Does anyone have any updates on a time frame when he might see the field?

He was dressed out and traveled, he's probably very close to playing.

My guess is that once he's cleared, he will be the starter. Pretty sure Kirby isn't going to roll with Bennett even if he might be the most consistent QB right now. I think pre-Fromm Kirby would but hopefully he's learned from that. Bennett is a baller and we are lucky to have him but he just doesn't have the arm talent that will let us beat top end teams.

Bennett absolutely has the arm talent. He over threw Pickens twice on go routes and throws darts.

He isn't the also rans of UGA qb past. Jt3 joe Cox etc...

His height is why we haven't seen more of him.

I saw that.Im assuming they were hoping he'd get cleared some time leading up to the game.

It was interesting that he was on the sideline with his helmet.. I’d guess he gets cleared this week but I’m sure we won’t hear about it because Kirby likes to play games.

Throwing the ball far is not what I mean when I'm talking about arm talent. Its about being able to throw with velocity and touch and hit windows that are very small against elite teams. If Bennett is our starter then we are looking at another year where we lose against the top teams when we play them.

Did you watch the game, he has an extremely compact and quick release and the ball was on target with nfl velocity.

Outs, crossing routes, and a go route to the TE were all bullets.

Joe Cox played a tougher Arkansas team on the road.
He threw for 69% completion, 375 yards, 14 ypa, 5 TDs and 1 INT.

Did you mean to say Bauta?
Given a clean pocket like Bennett had yesterday, Cox would have outperformed Bennett by a country mile.

Cox had a noodle for an arm but prepared with the first team, Bennett came in and did what he did only getting second team reps. Far harder which makes what he did far better.

I would compare Nauta to Mathis.

lol

You dont remember his deep ball. 14 ypa was not tossing the ball forward on jet sweeps and RB screens that broke loose. Cox was hitting every throw. Even the go routes.
Cox was as good as Murray with a clean pocket. Maybe even better (cox could hit the RB on screens which was something Murray struggled with much through his career).

Cox was the worst QB with pressure. He made bad plays/scenarios worse. Sack fumble. Throwing the ball out of bounds on his back foot but getting it intercepted for a pick 6.
But he would outperform Murray in 7 on 7.

You meant to say Bauta.

Edit to add: I worry that Bennett will have the same struggles with a front 4 that can get in his face. Those struggles with pressure are what I saw from him in limited reps last season.

Daniels is the upgraded version of Bennett in just about every facet except rushing.

Bennett is the quintessential back up QB. You know what you're getting and you can still call plays with no limitations. Mathis still has a role within the offense.

2 years and I am pretty sure a lot of folks can get an extra year even playing this year with all of the COVID and what not but I am not clear on this.

Two or three more years. I think he started his freshman season. Got hurt and redshirted his sophomore season.
