Good grief. I'd forgotten just how much Kinlaw made Hill his bitch in that USC game.

He really struggled that game. In his defense I think he is a Guard playing center. he struggles with the nuances of the center position. Calling OLine blocking schemes while hiking the ball and being ready for a bullrush by a 300 LB DLineman is tough. Then about the time you are set and think you are ready to go the defense shifts and everything changes. He still gets so caught up in setting the blocking schemes up that he struggles hiking the ball. Personally if VanPran or Erickson or somebody could pick up everything required of a center I would like to see what Hill could do as a guard.

Also in Hill’s defense, Kinlaw is an absolute stud.

I'm in the same group of thinking as you.

There is a ton of value in having a center return for a 2nd or 3rd season. But I just think Hill may be more of a guard than Center. I'm a big proponent that players see a jump in production in their third season, so I'm hoping that will be the case if Hill stays at C.

One of the podcasts that I catch did mention a lot of cross training with the 1s at C (which makes sense in case of injury or covid). What confused or excited me was Hill crossing over and getting reps at guard with the 1s as well. It makes me think we are still looking for our best 5.
