Breaking news: New saliva test approved. Game changer

Andy Slavitt just tweeted FDA just approved a cheap saliva test for COVID. It will cost about $10 per test, can be performed at almost any lab in the country and results are fast. An NCAA team doctor called it a game changer. Suddenly it is no longer cost prohibitive to test each and every player each and every day. If they can test every day, they can isolate any positives before it spreads out of control. B1G really looking like fools now.

I wouldn’t call it cheap considering you are testing about 200 people per day, but it works.

Versus the current $100 per test and that’s a bulk price. Yeah $10 is a godsend.

$2k per day is a drop in the bucket for a Power 5 program if it means they can get actual football played this annum and the TV money that comes with it

$2,000 a day for an athletic department that pulls in hundreds of millions? That's cheap.

Good to hear, but probably a near zero chance the test kits will be available for any sports team this year. Hospitals, nursing homes, health workers, they will be priority.

That’s part of the beauty of it: there are no “kits”. The test is done with materials the labs already have on hand. The tweet thread said it would be available to everyone within weeks.

10% of original cost and you compare that to no revenue coming in? Yawn
This tells you a lot about the NCAA medical “experts”
They didn’t want to play the season not because tests weren’t available, but because the costs of tests were going to make it difficult for most of college football to afford the testing. So, the ruling is, we are against playing the season, and screw the leagues and programs that could have afforded the higher costs. If I am seeing it wrong, feel free to show me why, and I mean that sincerely.

Andy Slavitt is a sky-screaming idiot. He talks a big game but he has been entirely incorrect in all of his COVID assessments. He thought COVID was the end of humanity.

I hope it is more accurate than the PCR test.
