They are if one of the main reasons for canceling is liability which it is, there lawyers and insurance providers are no different then any P5 program in the country. If they see major liability issues then yes the season will not happen.
I said this back in June from someone I know that told me the season was highly unlikely until spring but people kept saying financial will outweigh it. So we will see.

Ditto. I hope the SEC, Big 12, and ACC tell the rest of college football to kick rocks and play the season anyway.
The ACC will be soon as well following suit. If the B1G cancels the ACC will be right behind them.

Exactly lets hope people will finally follow the guidance and demonstrate they can create a safe environment when out and about.

Government-forced shutdowns are the problem here, not people going about their lives.

Incorrect. The universities, businesses, and other entities need to be able to demonstrate they can successfully maintain safety protocols. But they can not do that when people refuse to adhere to them. Which makes them liable and why we will not have sports like we are use to in the fall.
This is not about politics nor forced shutdowns. The universities had full intention on operating in the fall with support of government both on campus and on the field but with certain safety protocols to ensure the safety of those involved even the spectators. The problem are people who refuse to follow a simple protocol.
So again they are not being forced to shutdown but since we have those who feel they have something to prove and not follow safety protocols the rest of us have to suffer.

You don't know that public universities are government entities?
ETA: Nothing should be shut down, masks do nothing, and social distancing is pointless. The government is the problem here, not the virus.

Been telling y'all this for a few months now. This country didn't take this virus seriously from the jump, and here we are.
I do think we may get a couple of games in, but no way the season is completed.

As if 160,00 deaths haven't gotten everyone's attention. Lose college football and things are about to get real. Amazing.

No, it’s not about to get real because as you see, people still won’t take the basic necessary precautions to get this thing under control. They will blame politics, the guvmint, or aliens but they won’t adhere to a few simple rules. And even if they don’t work as some insist, so what? If it gives everyone a sense of security and allows things to continue normally, why don’t you just play along? It never ceases to amaze me how self-absorbed some are.

My assumption by your post is you swing to the right and if so I would think you would be following that party and know they are doing everything they can to prevent universities as well from being liable and from being sued.
Again they are not being forced by any government entity to shutdown. Please show me where the state of AL is saying no to football this fall. All these programs are looking at liability issues and if they think they can be held liable they will shut it down not an outside entity.
The problem are people refusing to follow protocols. I do not care if you agree with them or not, or whether they work or not. The issue is liability and the insurance companies. Any entity that operates and is required to have liability insurance is going to have to follow certain protocols to ensure safety. Right now those protocols are the things you are saying do not work, which is irrelevant, but are required by the insurance companies.
The universities are realizing there is only so much they can do on their own to protect all stakeholders for fall sports. But at some point they also need to know that the fans who supposedly love and support their program will also help them keep the doors open and following the safety protocols the university is putting in place. But we have to many that feel wearing a mask is asking them to give up some freedom and now we will have a fall without sports.

Agreed. I am neighbor and friends with someone on a P5 staff here where I live. They have the complete support of the state and local government to have football and other fall sports this fall as long as they can provide safety protocols for the virus. Nothing major other then require mask and reduce attendance to allow for social distancing. The local and state government realizes how much revenue will be lost if fall sports, especially football and now with alcohol sales, if canceled. Hell I live 10 minutes, 20 minutes, and 35 minutes from the stadiums of 3 P5 programs. But now that they continue to see local people and people outside the area ignore these protocols the concern for liability is growing.
Not sure why so many tin foil hat wearers have an issue with something so simple of a request.

The vast majority of Americans are adhering to the rules. This idea that we are flaunting the social distancing guidelines set out by the government is a misnomer, based on sensationalist media reports. The data shows that we adhered to the lock downs just as well as Europe did. Polls consistently show that a super majority of Americans are perfectly fine with wearing masks in public.

Yes it appears many decided to conform but now we are seeing that not be the case with students returning to campus. There already major universities here in my state(elsewhere as well) already seeing outbreaks and having to issue fines because students are not conforming. All they are required to do is wear a mask and follow social distancing guidelines. Not a hard concept.
Duke has a hotline for students to call in for other students not complying. If the students can not conform campuses will be closed down.
I am not sure how much more hand holding these young adults need to understand if they want to be on campus follow guidelines.

I think adherence has gotten a lot better over the last month or two, but it wasn't that great the first few months.
I also think there's a legitimate concern about how college students will adhere once they are on campus. Not really during the day, but at night and on the weekends.

You're surprised by the 18-21 crowd not conforming to rules and regulations? Thankfully for them the risk of people that age getting seriously sick from this disease are virtually at 0%.

It feels a little like the last vestige of sociability is on display here. You might not always get regular folks together on most political or even social issues but when it came to emergencies and tragedies that has never really been the case until now. COVID is right there with any Tornado, Hurricane, Tsunami, Earthquake, and what hasn't happened is chilling as a society.
With the pressure on, we actually became more divided politically, philosophically, and most of all, emotionally. Absolutely NO agreement on the simplest request for the greater good. As you alluded to, even if it would have meant marginal success with the mask, it, at least, would have shown some spirit of unity and cooperation to beat this thing.
The new normal is getting thrown around quite a bit these days, but this new normal is about as eye-opening as it gets and just as disappointing for everyone.

Yes but that does not account for those around them like faculty, staff, coaches, and every business they enter from getting it and becoming serious.
If they were confined to them and only their peers of the same age it would be one thing but they are not.

Unfortunately for residents of the communities of these college towns, not to mention faculty and staff at these colleges, the risk isn't as low.
And we still don't know much about the long term health impacts. Lot of reports of permanent heart, lung, and kidney damage in survivors, some that never even showed any symptoms of the virus.

Saban is at high risk based on age, but that seems to allude some on here.

I'm just completely done discussing this stuff. People have decided what they have decided and 2% of the population is willing to budge at all in any direction, which is basically America in a nutshell in 2020, and why this country is rapidly flushing itself down the frickin toilet.
