I legit thought this was a joke.
I’m on board with removing confederate monuments and considering campus building updates. But this is just placating nobody in particular because you want to do something attention-worthy.

I'm convinced that there is literally nothing that cannot be misconstrued as racist if somebody looks hard enough. Christ
That's why I'm generally uneasy with the removal of monuments and renaming of buildings. Cancel culture is a cancer that if not contained just spreads. People are looking for anything to pat themselves on the back and score brownie points and social cred.
Missed out on the opportunity to jump on the backwagon to rename a building named after a long-dead vile racist? No worries, you can contribute to the dismantling of systemic racism by finding something as docile as this offensive and ending a cheer.

quote:Why? Are you somehow more important than the folks who named those buildings and erected those monuments? Just because they are dead doesn't give you or anyone else the right to destroy what they erected. Change YOUR own name if that floats your boat. Leave history alone to be passed down to future generations. These monuments provide a window into the past and spur actual debate about what took place. This debate uncovers BOTH sides of an argument which is far, far more honest and better for society in general. Adopting only one perspective about historical events leads to a dead end road where EVERYBODY is FORCED to see things from one perspective whether right or wrong. You don't have a right to deny future Americans the freedom to think for themselves and should be opposing anyone who assumes that right.
