After doing some listening, the whole racist undertones thing is a stretch. It made me listen to other fight songs and compare. It is completely childish that Texas and Texas A&M both reference one another in multiple fight songs and refuse to play. “Hey let’s sing a fight song about our old rival that we don’t want to play any more.”
Just freaking play. This is just ridiculous. I’m not picking a side. They’re both acting dumb and need to suck it up.

They won’t be singing that song for much longer anyway

So ridiculous. I can see why they’d think Ole Miss playing “Dixie” is inappropriate but “the eyes of Texas”?

Because tradition isn’t a thing to you.
Lets just change a schools fight song that they have had for a century just because we stop playing them.
Btw this is a terrible line to pick from the Aggie fight song. “The eyes of TEXAS are upon you” could mean the entire state is looking at them to succeed. Not just the Whorns watching them closely.

The world is literally going to shite. I’ve seen a bunch of Mizzou students on Twitter talking about how their going to have to “frick up the campus”
I’m about done

What does that have to do with this thread.

TBH, I thought this was about UT’s fight song that their players are boycotting lol
Their players apparently won’t take part in any recruiting or donor functions until they change the song and several other things because it’s uh...racist I guess

They’re so demanding. They want all statues taken down and replaced with Kanye and OJ statues. They want the fight song changed to “Ridin Dirty”.

I think The bigger issue is that it was written for a minstrel show and sung in blackface.
Although it does sound like a song about a run away slave, it isn’t.

Texas isn’t our daddy. They’re Aggie’s daddy. 75-37 is a bad look bud.
Last I checked, LSU went 15-0.

A bunch of songs were sung and performed in black face. It was a very common form of entertainment in that era. We can’t freaking erase history just because you interpret it has racist 100 years later. Cancel everything!!

What’s wrong with Kanye?

Judging historical figures by modern day norms is always going to end poorly
I mean, I don’t even have a problem with changing building names or even removing statues but when and where does it even end

You do know “Dixie” was written by a black man that moved up to New York from Louisiana Right? He was performing up there (Song/dance) and was reminiscing over his youth back in French Louisiana and exchanging currency “dix” (ten in French). That was his inspiration to write the lyrics and song. He missed his home and had fond memories from his youth there.
