He isn't as smart as people want them to believe but he certainly is a smartass no doubt a bout it.

I would agree but looking back from about 1998 to 2011 they had some some average success (above .500), hell they even have some 10 win seasons in there. But they don’t have the best choices for Head Coach. They went from Chad with a 14-22 record to now having an OL coach who has never been a Head Coach. Before that they hired Fat Bert who took over a successful Wisconsin and was able to sustain that success. Bert took over Ark from a con-man who helped Kill the program. They need to get 2 things. A big name head coach and a big time bagman
Then Arkansas shall make you their bagman and you can help lead them to a top notch HC hire from LSU coaching staff?

I can mix up a few Mai Tai’s and they can try to pull Sark from Bama?!?

We didn't have the best choices because we had an 80 year old AD that needed to retire. Then you follow that with the snob Jeff Long and you just stepped in shite outside your door.
Houston Nutt shouldn't be hired because Tommy Tuberville was more qualified but Nutt wowed the search committee and was hired instead, bad move because he underachieved when had the talent. Tuberville would at least gotten an SEC title.
Pittman has been a head coach but not in division 1.
Petrino wasn't a con-man. Jeff long was with his integrity bullshite. Petrino just didn't agree to the terms of keeping his job. That is on him. Jeff Long helped kill the program. He was fired because he is a pompous self centered bitch.
Bert would not have been hired if a younger Frank Broyles was the AD. He would have called Barry Alvarez and get Intel on Bert. After the phone call, he would move on to someone else. Why? Because Bert is an alcoholic and he would pass out in his office. So yes a real go getter alright.
Arkansas tried to swing for the fences and went after big names. But they declined for different reasons. Lane Kiffin was the target for a while and was almost hired until Jimmy Sexton came in wanted more money when the contract was already agreed upon.
This irritated Hunter Yuracheck who was been rumored of not like dealing with Jimmy Sexton.
That was on a Saturday and Sam Pittman came calling the next day.
I like Sam Pittman and I have not seen such passion for the program since Ken Hatfield. Those type of coaches will succeed.

Less Miles was Bert's bitch. It took a hail Mary for us to avoid losing three straight to him from 2013-15, yet some of our fans remember that Elmer Fudd motherfricker fondly to this day

The Chad is one of the worst coaches in SEC history. You have to lose those non conference games on purpose.

I’m with you, I appreciate the very informative response!

quote:Miles won a national title so that is going to buy some rep for any fanbase. I understand where you are coming from though because we have fans who idolize Houston Nutt. Nutt wasn't horrible - especially when you compare him to what we've had - but he wasn't the demigod that central arkansas fans make him out to be either. They think Nutt is the representive of a "TRUE RAZORBACK" despite the fact that he quit as a player and ran off to Oklahoma State. He is a cowpoke not a Razorback.

They should have an ESPN 30 for 30 on the bloopers and blunders of razorback football for the last 30 years. It should be a warning for any school of what not to do.

Auburn fans sure are mad today about Chad Morris. It's okay guys. Maybe he will work his magic and you'll finally be rid of the 7 million dollar man.

Unlike Nutt, Miles took advantage of his opportunity. Nutt was too lazy to do it.
Nutt wasn't a razorback when he graduated from Oklahoma State and Lou Holtz told him to get lost.
I cringe when people mention Nutt in the same breath as Frank Broyles and Ken Hatfield. I met Nutt and Hatfield and Hatfield has more character in his finger than Nutt in his whole body. Hatfield gave his all to this University and state. Nutt didn't do his best and just did the bare minimum.

From what I've heard from Rice folks Hatfield seems like a good man. I'm not religious myself, but I respect sincerity of belief (caused some controversy there). His problem was perhaps being inflexible in his approach: still running the wishbone there in the 2000s. I can only imagine that offense drove people crazy at a place that actually cares about football like Arkansas lol

Hatfield was a great coach, but boring. His "Jesus Wept" comment after a 14-16 loss to texAss on the coaches show (which at that time was a big thing most people watched) turned a lot of fans off -- even in a religious state.
Family friend at Clemson said he never fit in there because he wasn't into the social stuff involved. He followed Danny Ford who ironically eventually became the Razorback coach.
He would have probably been better off if he stayed at Air Force.
He's still loved by Hog fans. Think he's living in Fayetteville now.

An 8 win season would be a huge success for Chad.

My great uncle played for Arkansas in the early 60s. Freshmen weren't allowed on the team but he was a junior varsity all American. He and Hatfield played for the same high school. Arkansas offered my uncle first and they watched and then offered Hatfield.
Ken Hatfield got a lot of heat in the late 80s because he didn't hire any assistants that would pass the ball more. He won back to back SWC titles, he had no need to. But Frank was persistent and Hatfield left. I believe he left because he thought he was going to get fired eventually. Frank had no problems firing coaches that were successful. If you didn't do what Frank said then eventually he would find a way to get rid of you. He wanted to fire Nolan Richardson in 1990 because Nolan wouldn't back down. Nolan was mad at him for personal reasons.
He wasn't very flexible but those offenses were the standard in the 80s and Arkansas has always traditionally ran the ball.
His offense won an ACC title at Clemson and they wouldn't win it again until Dabo came along.
To this day, he still has the highest winning percentage here.

I still remember fans at wms throwing trash on the field after Texas beat us on a last second pass in 1987.
Hatfield caught a ton of undeserved grief from fans and of course Broyles wanted to act as a coach by proxy.

It wouldn't surprise me thought because despite all of the garbage that Nolan Richardson put up with from Frank and some of our fans he still lives up here. NWA and Fayetteville is a great place to live.
