I’m glad to hear an Alabama fan acknowledge this, because it is 100% true

This is actually a pretty good assessment.

It shows how incredibly important a W in that game is to both LSU and Bama's playoff and title aspirations.

It also shows that the winner of that game is probably the best in the country with a few exceptions.

I’ll also add that Nick Saban became a better coach at bama because he got rid of the NFL thing and became totally focused on college football for the rest of his career

Just curious, why? If you beat LSU and lose to Auburn, you’re still in because you know Auburn is going to drop the ball at some other point in the season. LSU and Alabama are the two in the west most likely to go to Atlanta.

Oh we aren’t immune to that either

On the other hand, Auburn has some strong 20 year Death Valley voodoo. #CigarCurse

No you aren’t. Saban, his staff, and the players all look at LSU as the toughest game on their schedule every year.

2011 and 2012

I think LSU had a decent chance at beating Notre Dame in the NC, just because of how unnaturally weak ND was for a team playing in the NCG, but I don't think they were better than Georgia. Not to mention the losses to Florida and Clemson - although I think Clemson was probably just as good as ND that year. I think 2011 is the only for sure choice. I don't see any way Oklahoma State could have beaten that LSU team.

Had he gotten the nfl out of his system before he got to LSU there is no telling how many he would have won.

Ehh the way the team was playing up until that Bama win they would have just launched in terms of performance.

You say they weren’t better than UGA, but I still believe in my heart of hearts LSU was better than Bama that day and that after the bama game they quit.

How many NC would Saban have if not for Mulligan’s. Would he be in the same conversation with Bryant ?

When you really take a look at the past 20 years it doesn't seem as lopsided as it feels.

Bama has won 5
LSU has won 3

In that [2011] game alone, which LSU won 9-6 in overtime, there were 28 defensive players who played in the game -- 14 on each side -- who would get drafted. That includes 10 first-rounders. The grand total of future draftees who played in the game was 42, and that doesn’t even count another handful of players who made NFL rosters as undrafted free agents.

If it’s so tough then why did they have an 8 game winning streak?

The correct answer to this is Miles built LSU to play 60's bully ball and thats all fine and dandy until you play a team with equal or better athletes.
