UK has told professors to get ready to move classes on line. IU and Purdue are also on the list of schools suspending classes. Things gonna get interesting.

One must wonder, if its just the flu, why close schools down, is it worse than theyre sayin?

The number is increasing by the hour.
We will be in full outbreak mode within days, not weeks.

One of my coworkers is also an adjunct at UofL and they’ve had the same discussions. The concerns is these students are traveling all over for spring break and likely bringing back cases to their regions. The other issue is it’s presenting as a cold in young, health individuals but can be deadly for immunocompromised students or those over 60.

The largest fear is its a relatively unknown virus and the more it spreads the higher the likelihood it will mutate. And it’s a crap shoot whether it mutates into a less severe strain or it gets worse.

These other viruses that are so deadly tend to burn themselves out. This is a Coronavirus which is related to the common cold and doesn’t burn itself out. People 60 plus with diabetes, heart conditions, and respiratory conditions are the ones that are dieing from this. There is no vaccine yet and probably want be for at least a year. They don’t care if young people get it they just don’t want them spreading it unnecessarily and killing a lot of old people. They also don’t want to overwhelm the medical field that’s already dealing with the flu with a bunch of people with Corvid19 that didn’t need to get it.

When did they have spring break? My guess would be they are worried about the fact that they have a high number of Asian students who may have traveled home over the break as well as other students who may have traveled to far flung places.

In addition to 60+ there are young people with conditions that put them at high risk.

Yes, yes, be very afraid. Now, up from 19, the confirmed deaths from coronavirus is 27 people in the United States.

I think 27 people died in a 30 minute period from the flu, yesterday, but that shite isn't important.

It's really getting ridiculous. All of you are deathly afraid of the "old and sick and vulnerable" dying because that is what the coronavirus does. It kills your grandparents.

Guess what. All diseases, infections, viruses, etc... of any type always, always, always affect the elderly and those with preexisting conditions in the most severe fashion.

Breaking News: Worldwide, about 3,500 people died yesterday, give or take, from car accidents. About 1.25 million a year succumb to this illness. The difference with this killer is that it's mostly young people who die.

I'm feeling like I may need to go grocery shopping soon as a diabetic...probably a good idea to have food reserves at this point

Oh yeah for sure mutation is an issue, on top of travel.

And it may not be a huge deal and just overblown, but videos like this are freaky

The SO is as well. We stocked up on meat, frozen veggies, etc. to cover us for about 2-3 weeks if it gets too bad. It didn’t put us out and if things blow over then we’re just stocked up for a bit.

Likely actors paid by Photoshop and The Google in an attempt to take down Snap Tok.

I see right through this.

Yes you will.

And now is a great time for organizations to review their business continuity strategy and consider whether or not it is adequate to accommodate migrating 90% of your workforce offsite.

Your guess is very wrong.

NYU starts online classes tomorrow with spring break next week. Their Chinese students face a 14 day quarantine in China if they return home in China and another here when they return. They are not going home.

My girl comes home Thursday but I'm not now sure when she will return...

He is an actual neanderthal (he admitted to being less evolved in another thread), and not being susceptible to this virus must be the only thing his species has going for it.

You have nothing to lose by stocking up. I've never understood why people are resistant to the practice and make fun of people when they do it in the faces of potential crisis.

Just saves you on some grocery trips for a while.

I think it is detrimental for people with theatrical and melodramatic personalities to frighten normal people.

You are on the verge of developing agoraphobia due to a new virus joining all the others that have been around forever.

27 people have died in the United States. It's not yet quite comparable to the Black Death scourges that eliminated much of the Earth's population in successive waves in the Middle Ages as you alluded to earlier.

Calm the frick down.
