Because recruiting is the name of the game.
A&M hired Coley for that same reason.
Also, A&M and LSU share much of the same recruiting ground donut makes the transition easier.

Because frickLSU®, that's why!
Imagine spending $488,000,000 on a new football stadium and $75,000,000 on a head coach in the last five years. Literally over half a billion dollars.
Now imagine doing those things and then losing a division game by 43 points.

Or it could be that LSU told him to look for another job?

Don't forget that they outbid LSU to keep Jimbo from going there and LSU got "stuck" with Ed Orgeron.

A&M has nailed more coaching hires and conference moves than the entire FBS combined. Nothing to show for it. Johnny Football would have at least won the conference in any other school.
You are who you are. A&M is mediocre.

They were 100% convinced Chavis was the only reason LSU was still respectable in the late Miles years. He went to A&M and destroyed his career. No toughness there.

You wrongly assume that one has anything to do with the other.

Texas A&M Football is the example of the old adage, " A fool and his money are soon parted."
