Just something to take a look at and keep in mind in regards to this year's team - it's the #2 best team of the last 15 years in terms of efficiency per KenPom.

Also feel free to laugh out loud at the consistency of mediocrity. We've won between 17-21 games in 11 of the last 14 years and between 17-19 games in 8 of the last 14 years

We've won 18 or more games for 5 straight seasons .

Alabama KenPom Rankings - 2006 to 2020 (15 seasons)

To follow up - we've really only had 4 "bad" teams in the last 15 years, and 1 of them was Avery's first team which got everything they could out of their roster. 2 were the last 2 teams of the Gottfried era and 1 was the 13 win Grant team.

Every other team, or basically EVERY team since 2010 except for 1 has been average. Only 1 terrible team the last 10 years. And yet........basically every one of them between #49 and #64

The consistency is almost more impressive than Alabama Football. Alabama Football has a stop gap in front of them - there is less room for them to maneuver because there is nothing better than #1.

Alabama basketball maintains their grip on a 10-15 spot location smack dab in the middle of major college basketball - every single season!

It's almost impossible to have a losing record in basketball unless you are exceptionally terrible. Most teams pack their non conference schedule with at least 10 cupcakes.

Losing Seasons Since 1997
1. Kentucky (0)
2. Alabama (2)
3. Florida (3)
4. Tennessee (4)
5. Arkansas (5)
5. Ole Miss (5)
7. Georgia (7)
7. Mississippi St (7)
7. Missouri (7)
7. Vanderbilt (7)
11. LSU (8)
12. Texas A&M (9)

It's definitely not impossible, and the only team with less since 1997 is Kentucky.

Tony Barbee needed a few more years to get things turned around

Has any mediocre SEC program had more iconic and "generational" players than LSU?

The great "Pistol" Pete

The Shaq attack

Bob Pettit

Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf (alias Chris Jackson)

Ben Simmons

Somewhere along the line you would have thought they would have accidentally won a title.

To put on a posi-bammer hat, if Oats can have the team finish the season decently with a depleted roster to where this would be the 2nd best team in the past 15 years based on analytics, that has to bode well for the future.

To play off of this, I was interested to see how many NCAA tournament appearances for each team since '97.

Results are:

Losing Seasons Since 1997/NCAA Tourney Appearances since 1997
1. Kentucky (0)(20)
2. Alabama (2)(7)
3. Florida (3)(17)
4. Tennessee (4)(13)
5. Arkansas (5)(10)
5. Ole Miss (5)(7)
7. Georgia (7)(6)
7. Mississippi St (7)(7)
7. Missouri (7)(11)
7. Vanderbilt (7)(9)
11. LSU (8)(7)
12. Texas A&M (9)(8)
13. South Carolina (10)(4)
14. Auburn (11)(5)

So in the top 5 of fewest losing seasons, everyone else is in double digit NCAAT appearances in that time frame. LOL wut...

We suffered 2 or 3 awful losses without Andrew Steele that hurt us. Also hurt us Nerlins Noel blew out his knee and UK missed the tournament killing our signature win

Easy to forget it’s Oats’ first year and only halfway through that while installing a completely different system and culture. Saban went 7-6 his first year and lost to La Monroe. Not equating the coaches or sports, but I think Oats has earned a few years to build a program.. Just to make the dance would be a miracle this year.
