But god dammit they hired Leach and we’re sitting on our hands with Muschamp. This bothers the frick out of me.

I don't know why. No Muschamp = no Bobo, Burch, and possibly Lloyd.
Leach has had a couple of good years with one division title that he tied with. WSU leads the nation in arrest since Leach has been the coach there and he has always been quick to throw his players under the bus. He also hates rubbing shoulders with boosters - which I can personally understand - but is a necessity in the SEC.
Yeah, he's quirky, his rants can be funny, and I don't think he's a bad coach or anything but I find him to be overrated overall.

Not the person you want running a "program".

Doesn’t matter who you get if you can’t coach them up, but yeah maybe Muschamps 8th OC will be the difference.
Do you think Muschamp is a better coach than Leach?

Why?
I have a feeling something off the field bothers you about him.

he makes better men. And that's all we care about

Just too quirky for me. Leech is the type of guy I'd like to sit down and a conversation with about 1,000 different things. While fun to watch and listen to, I feel that "style" would eventually turn off some of the important behind the scenes players (donors/boosters). Simple as that.

not going to argue that. But I feel like the current coach right now is doing even worse and turning off far more than leach would.

I don't think firing a C+ coach a few years into his run just to get a B- coach that clearly has his own ceiling is good for the long term health of our program. I think Muschamp's career winning percentage is 55-56%. Mike Leach's is like 60% with a much bigger sample size.

i wouldn't give him that much credit.
Now... that being said I love leach think he's a better coach.
I just don't think he's right for our program, because of where we as a fanbase and program hold it.
That said Don't think Muschamp is the right guy either.

Leach doesn't emphasize defense and isn't the best recruiter. I do think it's still a great hire for State but I wouldn't necessarily have wanted him here. Still don't want Muschamp though.

Anybody ever spent any time in Pullman, WA? Small town in the middle of nowhere, freezing cold, in a state where they're second fiddle to UW, with little HS talent in the state and paltry resources compared to the Cali schools and Oregon. And yet despite this, Wazzu was competitive.

He went 6-7 this year in the worst P5 conference in the country and he's had some truly abysmal losses in his tenure there - even during some of his better seasons.
I'm not even here to argue whether or not we should have kept Muschamp but Leach has had 2 10-win season in 18 years. Is that really who we want to replace Muschamp?

ehhhh
I mean other than a program having a good history, a ton of colleges are in the middle of nowhere college towns.
Kids don't give a frick about that, they just wanna play/win football games.
And get paid on the side.
If location were the case Alabama, Notre Dame, Clemson, Auburn etc wouldn't have titles

I personally think Leach is overrated, and I don't think his style of offense is going to work in the SEC West. He will be funny though, and that might be good for the league. I mean his team just lost to Air Force.

Eh
LSU just torched the SEC throwing the ball 40 times a Game
His issue won’t be putting up points. It will be stopping it

This is what Pullman looks like most of the year when it isn't covered with snow. The Palouse is a frigid prairie desert outside of the summer months. You're 300 miles from Seattle and the closest city is Spokane, which is 80 miles away. Wazzu has an all-time record under .500, a small fanbase with scarce resources and a stadium that is less than half our size. Their location and lack of resources puts them at one of the biggest disadvantages in Power 5 football. I generally don't think we in the South understand how hard it is to be even moderately successful at Wazzu, which Leach was.

I agree with you
Wazzu is one of the single worst.
I'm just saying you have other schools out there that aren't as bad but very close and still do well.
But they were built by good coaches.

I member this fun convo, glad you dug it up for these morons to stew on. Thank god we didn't shite can Mus for recruiting purposes. Cause those recruits are really killing it with that sub par coaching. Meanwhile Leach could put up 600 with frisbey golf team.
