Under Eaux, do you think LSU can maintain an elite program?

If not for their historic offense, they probably lose 2 or 3 games this season due to a subpar defense by their standards.

They obviously have the talent, but talent hasn’t been their problem in a very long time.

Their staff - outside of eaux - will be targeted to fill other teams’ vacancies. Coach poaching is unavoidable when your team is successful. It hurts your team schematically and in recruiting.

They will obviously see a drop off at QB for next season. I believe they’ll still be better than they usually are on offense, but they won’t be incredible.

I would expect them to have a top 10 team for the next few seasons, but that’s about where they’ve been. They could make some noise if they can catch lightning with another QB. The free agency portal certainly makes this possible. I’m not sure what they already have on the roster.

My gut tells me Bama will be favored in BR next November.

No, I don't think they can maintain this level of accomplishment.

I DO think this is their year. Things have fallen exactly into place for them, at exactly the right time.

I don't think it'll happen again, though. They're Auburn 2010.

I dunno what their post-Burrow era looks like, but they've proven that with their talent base and competent coaching they are a Top 5/10 mainstay.

So, I'd expect them to continue to be a playoff/SEC contender at least for the next few years. I don't expect them to be Alabama or Clemson.

Will be interesting to see. I didn't think he would have this much success, so I can't really say.

You have peaks and valleys but LSU has been elite or near so for around 15-16 consecutive years now. And, honestly, when you think about it they are due for a season like this because outside of QB they have had better skill players and defenses. This season everything is coming together for them.

That’s a really great analogy. I can’t believe I hadn’t thought of it.

Yep - agree. Burrow, those receivers, Brady, CEH being at a mature state, etc. Hard to draw it up much better than that.

If LSU goes 8-5 in 2020 and 3-9 in 2021 I'll eat my shorts

Well...I mean...Eaux’s track record isn’t really any better than Chizik’s.

I mean, he's finished ranked #14, #18, #7 the last 3 years.

But he’s at LSU.
Chiz was at a bum school prior to AU.

Eaux was pretty bad at OM.

Yea, but he's still going to be at LSU. So, I think the floor is going to be pretty high.

Also - I think he legitimately took lessons from Ole Miss and improved. He will have to continue hiring good coordinators when they inevitably leave, though. That is his model (like Dabo). I don't think he'll have the same guys stick around for a decade like Dabo has.

True...Dabo had a history with his coaches prior to being HC.

These guys are just professional acquaintances of Eaux. They’ll bounce for a career promotion.

Yep, and he'll have to make solid replacement hires. That will determine the rest of his tenure, IMHO. But I do have to say that it seems like they have built a pretty solid foundation.

The stakes are way higher at LSU than Clemson. LSU (and no SEC school) can't offer a coach the quality of life that Clemson can with an extra day off each week. And, LSU like Bama, can offer a coach the opportunity to jump to a prime job that I don't believe Clemson can (Venables couldn't get the K State job; didn't even get an interview). So, it will be harder for O to keep a staff intact like Clemson. But, O has shown the ability to make good hires.

I think Eaux’s future success is nearly totally out of his hands. It will totally depend on his OC’s success at getting an elite QB and coaching him up.

LSU fans won’t settle for a team regularly scoring in the teens any more.

The good news for him is that it isn't all that difficult to find an above average modern era offensive coach. Now, this season isn't going to be replicated, but they'll always have great backs and receivers. Eaux has shown he is willing to be hands off on things, too. It'll be an attractive job for coaches going forward.

Them doing anything similar to what they're doing this year ends whenever Brady leaves.

I doubt that - they aren't going back to anything resembling the stone age ever again.

Now, will they be as good at it? Probably not. But they'll keep hiring OCs who run shotgun, 4 wide, spread stuff.
