Our biggest issue the past 4 years has been the offensive line

Now we hire one of the best offensive line gurus in the business and people are upset? I really don't get it. If we can fix the O-line we can start to be good again.

I understand the lack of experience concerns, but outside of that I have no idea how anyone can complain. He checks literally every other box you want in an SEC coach and actually gives a shite about the program. I'll ride with this one.

Then we just have to rebuild the rest of it after he is let go.

The only thing I'm actually worried about is the OC. The best thing he has done so far is not hiring Chaney, yet.

You know, Jack Crowe once said that

"Arkansas is a hard job, because you either have to out-motivate the other team or you have to out-coach the other team, because you'll almost never out-talent anyone"

With that in mind, call me crazy, but I think we found a coach who will out-motivate other teams. He won't let this team give up on itself like we have seen in years past.

Yep. I don’t think the average football fan understands the impact that having lousy line play has on everything the team is trying to do. The job that the big guys do goes unnoticed for the most part, and discounted for the rest, when in reality it is almost impossible for the rest of the players to have an impact on the game, without the bigs doing their job.

It doesn’t mean Pittman will win a single game, but his lineman on both sides of the ball will almost undoubtedly provide the opportunity for wins.

Never heard of him until Sunday when he came on and pushed numerously busted Davis.

Yep.

You control the trenches, you control 80% of the game.

For all the shite we gave Nutt, he always had good to great Olines. He could trot out any damn QB off the street(and he did it seemed some years)and win 6+ games a year.

A good Oline is going to damn near guarantee you 4 ypc rushing. Keep your QB upright, and wear your opponents down in the 3rd to 4th quarters. It’s going to make your lesser opponents cower and not want anymore and fold like a cheap tent.

It’s the most pivotal part of turning this program around. It’s why I am not upset about the hire. If it doesn’t work our record wise, so be it. The next coach is likely going to have some beef to work with up front.

Some folks are upset we didn't hire Bear Bryant to be the HC with Nick Saban as his DC and Steve Spurrier to be his OC.

Don't pretend Pittman was in your top 5 realistic candidates. I don't mind the hire but it seems very risky with where we are at as a program. Too late to second guess now.

I doubt any of my top candidates even considered coming to Arkansas. I don't know who all turned us down, but I do know who didn't.

As soon as his name started floating around, I was on board. I wanted him more than Kiffin.

We've won 4 games in 2 years. There's nowhere to go but up. I don't get where all this "risk" is coming from. We either stay the same or we get better. We can't get worse. It's plain as day Kiffin didn't plan on staying at either job for long which is the exact opposite of what a program looking for stability needs. Ole Miss will be hiring a new coach in 2-3 years. If anything, hiring Kiffin would have carried much more risk for a program in the state ours is.

I think people’s delusional beliefs about where we are as a program feeds into the disappointment with the Pittman hire.

We are not only the worst program in the SEC, at present we are one of the worst P5 programs in the country. In the last 10 years, we are 67-72, and that includes 29 wins from the Petrino era. We have won 4 games in the last two seasons.

The truth of the matter is that we are incredibly lucky that there is a coach the caliber of Sam Pittman that has enough of a true feeling for this program and the Arkansas Razorbacks to put his reputation and fortunes on the line to try to fix the dreadful shitshow we currently are.

If there was another coach in the country that wanted to right this ship as much as Pittman does, he would probably be the head hog right now. If our own BoT and administrators felt the way Pittman apparently does, we wouldn’t be in this situation to begin with.

This I think nails it. I wanted Kiffin but after learning about Pittman, how much he wanted this gig, and how great his recruiting/contacts are.... I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do. I don’t think there’s any possibility that we don’t show improvement and I truly believe people will be impressed sooner rather than later.

Not against Pittman, I think he can be successful. All about his OC/DC hires I believe.

I agree.

If Kiffin is moderately to highly successful at Ole Miss, he will most likely leave within 2-3 years. And if he isn't, he will be fired within 4. He's never been able to to stay anywhere very long.

This is a terrible metric. Pittman is charismatic recruiter. You don't seriously believe Pittman cares less about being a p5 head coach than he does about Arkansas? We have to support him and be hopeful, but we don't have to try and rationalize this as a great hire.

The koolaid is going to be glorious this summer.
