10 second runoff only applies if the clock was moving. If the clock was stopped when the penalty happened (e.g. after a time out), there is no 10 second runoff.

Found this explanation that sums it up well:
LINK

quote:

It was not a dead-ball foul. It happened simultaneously with the snap. No run-off but no clock stoppage.. hence why the clock started on the referee's signal and ticked to zero.

quote:
During the stoppage, offense gathers itself and is ready to snap the ball as soon as official signals ready for play.

This very well could have happened, but Les is not good at footballs.

I saw an argument somewhere (SB Nation) that it actually should've been a false start call (which does have a 10 second runoff) instead of an illegal shift. I don't know about that but moot point as LSU squandered the opportunity by not getting ready to snap the ball. Arguably not easy to get set when the officials move the line of scrimmage on you but it didn't look like Les made much of an effort to get ready until the panic set in. Which, of course, along with general offensive ineptitude was a big reason why he got fired.

There is no 10 second runoff in the first half. The 10 second runoff only applies to the second half.

Not even remotely the same. For starters, Yeldon ran out of bounds.

And Auburn had a first down.

Why are none of us surprised that you don't know the difference in the rules?

If you read the rule book you'd know play is dead by RULE. The whistle is simply an indicator that the ball is dead and the play is over.

Uh, no. Ever heard of an inadvertent whistle?

This whining is really unbecoming.

It is a sad day when Alabama fans are crying about 3 points --- how about the other 60 minutes of play, not to mention the other 45 points?

Bama got a bad break. Boo hoo. Almost every team can point to bad breaks over the course of a season. Alabama put themselves in a position to lose because of excessive penalties and turnovers.

Maybe you should blame your DC instead of the ref.

Agree - it sucked, but it didn't lose us the game. Whining about refs sucks.
