I smoked a pipe off and on 40-45 years ago and enjoyed it. I accumulated a nice collection. My father was a pipe smoker, too. I enjoyed using different tobaccos with different aromas. The only real setback to pipe smoking is having to lug all the paraphernalia needed to smoke and maintain it (multiple pipes, tobacco, filters cases, etc.).

me maybe 30
Trick is getting the right Cavendish -to- aromatic blend(s), where you often trade superb taste at the expense of great aroma. There's all manner and you'll want different one's for different occasions. That and learning how to stay on the good side of too hot a smoke and when to clean in order avoid that nasty taste... no biggie just part of the fun and learning.

I had a similar experience. Had an extensive collection of some pretty good pipes, mostly Charatans. Quit smoking them, Too much bother fooling with paraphernalia and buying good tobaccos outside of big cities. Gave my pipes, humidors, etc to an old friend. He returned most of them 20 years later. I quit smoking cigarettes about a year and a half ago, and every now and then think i would enjoy lighting up a pipe and relaxing with a glass of good whiskey. .
