Krampus, your answer is a dumb one, to say there are folks that join the Corps for their commissions and the rest just joined for girls is beyond absurd. I never understood why folks give Corps folks crap if they joined but didn’t commission. I joined as a fish and at that time military wasn’t even a consideration although I ended up there. I thought it would be good for me. In all reality although I didn’t finish it out the Corps, it was good for me and I’m not alone. Would you rather the non commission folks join a frat? At least the Corps was free and instilled some discipline and provided a brotherhood. My Dad, class of ‘74 still gets together every year at the very least with his Corps buddies, for a reunion. I’m close with my college buddies but it doesn’t compare to the bond him and his Corps buddies had even though only half of them commissioned. Tired of seeing folks bag on the Corps

Also Krampus, out of curiosity, what year did you graduate and did you serve?

I was a regular student. My dad was a regular student. My grandfather and my uncle were in the Corps of Cadets. Very few Ags I know personally and professionally were in the Corps. One guy I do business with, and are family friends with, was in the Corps and was also a yell leader.

You know what I pick at you Aggies a lot and don’t understand all these weird traditions but I sincerely mean to those who served thank you for your service.

Regular and “bought my friends” (per corps) through a fraternity

Not per Corps, did you pay to be a member of a frat? If so, not per corps, per personal financial transaction

I'm not bagging on the Corps, I actually have a ton of respect for the institution. That doesn't change the fact that there are a lot of dudes that join because they've heard the legend of the Bootchasers. A few of my close friends joined the corps for exactly that reason, and damned if it didn't work by the way. Dudes always had dates to Midnight Yell and pulled well above their pay grade at that. None had any intention of serving afterward, and didn't.
Although, now that I'm thinking about it, I should have added a third catagory of people who wanted to be in the band. Knew a few of those too.
Maybe my experience was too limited to be totally accurate, but that's what I saw. Early 2000's time frame.

The corps is a great organization.
That doesn’t mean they don’t do a bunch of embarrassing shite.
