I mean, Barry Fricking Switzer was able to win a Super Bowl.

I guess that salary cap really is a big equalizer.

Apples and oranges. One coach took over a franchise that had won two Super Bowls in the last three seasons, and would have threepeated if the 49ers hadn't defeated them in the NFC Championship Game the season before Switzer took over.

The other coach took over a Miami Dolphins franchise that had been in shambles for years.

Belichik didn't set the world on fire his first season either. Saban didn't get fired, it's pretty clear that Mrs. Lord Saban preferred the life of a college coach's wife. And as they say, "when mama ain't happy ain't nobody happy ".

Because the HC isn’t in charge of his own roster.

Saban tried to be a complete autocrat with The Dolphins like he is at Bama. His approach flew like a lead balloon in Miami. He quickly lost support within the organization.

I could've coached that Dallas team to a SB

1. Switzer walked into a situation that was fairly well stacked for success. Jimmy Johnson didn't leave the cupboard very bare. Basically, Switzer's teams were slowly getting worse despite winning a Super Bowl. They were definitely declining. I think Jerry Jones saw the handwriting on the wall. I consider this situation fairly analgous to when Larry Coker was named coach at Miami and went undefeated during his first year. That doesn't mean he was the best college coach.

2. Saban narrowly missed the playoffs his first year. The second year, the defense was great but the offense was pretty bad. Let's put it this way... Cleo Lemon was his best choice at QB during the last half of his second season. I'm fairly confident that if the Dolphins had actually signed Brees, his overall pro record would have been quite different. IMHO QB play is much more important for success at the pro level than the college level.

Anyway, just my two cents worth. If Saban hadn't gone to Miami, 3 or 4 of Bama's national championships the last few years probably would have occurred at LSU.

He makes his by being a phenom in recruiting, fundamentals and REC.

You dont get to recruit the draft stock in the NFL.

Most NFL players dont need to be taught fundamentals. Coaches in the NFL are separated by their ability to X & O.

The REC dont have nothing on the Patriots Zebra Club.

What in the hell? You guys have been blowing the gumps all season and now you act like a scorned lover. LSU broke the gumps and most of the Aggie dick riders.
What a time to be alive.

It’s much harder screaming at grown men who make a ton of money and trying to motivate them by fear.

Nfl players won’t put up with his jackass personality. Plus recruiting is what made him great in college. He doesn’t have that angle in nfl.

Because his players walked all over him

quote:

He got a kick out of occasionally switching a Saban-called play in the defensive huddle, something his coach had begun to notice. Saban’s face contorted into rage when he heard Thomas yelling. He stopped practice and ran over to Thomas and told him to “shut the frick up.” Thomas told Saban to “shut the frick up” right back, then yelled, “I’m a grown-arse man!”

By the time a player becomes a veteran in the NFL, they know as much as the coaching staff. The NFL requires coaches to be able to work together with the players as opposed to dictating everything. Plus, the coach doesn’t control the roster/depth chart 100%. Saban could have probably adapted and been successful, but he was at freaking Miami. Dan Marino couldn’t even win a SB there.

time would certainly be one reason. It's not as if Saban failed. He did okay.
