Not that it matters a whole lot but the average American has an IQ of 98...that’s average as grits. Now, assume that the average American message board poster is likely 3-5 points higher than that...still not too bright. There is a lot of dumb in this country. We lag behind pretty much all of Asia and most of Europe.

The elephant in the room here is that IQ is largely a heritable trait, therefore it correlates very strongly to ethnicity.

The United States has a significantly more diverse population than European countries and east Asian countries (which is what I think you are referring to rather than "pretty much all of Asia"). If you were to isolate Americans of European decent, for example, and stack their IQ results against other European populations, the results would be similar. Similar thing with Asian Americans relative to their countries of origin, et al.

This veers into can of worms territory because IQ discussions have been deemed taboo by the PC police, but Americans are not just inherently dumber relative to the other countries by virtue of growing up here. We just have significantly different demographics.

It’s true that countries with largely homogenous populations tend to do better or worse based on the traits you mentioned.

It's mostly heritable. You can do things during development to maximize IQ (breastfeeding, not consuming lead, etc.), but schooling and training does not appear to help improve your overall score.
