why was he in a wheelchair if he could walk?

He had two prosthetic legs up way past his knees and could walk very poorly. He’s not making it very far without a wheelchair. It was pretty awesome.
It was the only thing Mississippi State fans had to cheer for on Saturday.

The KAs at MSU raised money and got him a TrackChair. It was a pretty emotional presentation.
Here's to everybody involved

That's really awesome. Kudos to the young men that raised the money for that vet.

I was there and thought it was awesome. But I have to say, when they tried to wheel him off the field but the wheels were stuck on the red carpet, then he got up and walked off people acted like he had never walked before and a miracle just happened. I don’t think that was the case.

I don’t think anyone thought that, more so celebrating him getting up and walking still today with two prosthetics

Is that why those girls they kept panning to in the audience were crying?
