Honest question, is our WR coach getting it done?

I know we are young and thankfully Cager transfered in and DRob has been streaky.
But not seeing the young guys helping Fromm out as the 2017 crew did. You have got to create separation and not every throw is going to be where you want it. They have to be going against better comp in practice than the majority of the teams we have played.
WR is the teams biggest weakness outside of punting.
Not saying they aren't improving but the WRs missed some opportunities again.
More so than ever, they have to improve as a unit for this team to get where we want to go. Which is fully possible.

I'm just glad to see them holding onto routine catches for the most part and some of the grabs have been spectacular.

I am actually quite pleased with the blocking, route running, catching, etc. I'm more worried about tight end, TBH.

Outside of the Simmons drop on a crossing pattern, our WRs didn’t have a single missed opportunity all day I would expect them to have made.
Can you name one?

They’ve been generally fine imo. HS to college wr is a tough transition.
I don’t like how they seem to be using Pickens as pretty much a fade route specialist. I get that it avoids risk, but he’s shown some capability to have a more diverse route tree.

We don’t have anyone dominant other than Cager thus far, but the ball is also being spread to a lot of players. I think you need to look at what we are trying to do on offense. First, it is a cumulative thing. We want to get first downs. Make them run side to side. Wear them down.
The formation we are using a good bit has twins to both sides. First thing this does is spread out the defense. It puts a lot of defensive players on Islands. They have to respect and make tackles on those short, outside passes. This affects the positioning of their safeties. It also gives our dominant O Line an advantage running that dive, which overall, we have done a nice job with all season. The only legit knock on our Offense is our lack of ability at times to get the 3rd or 4th and 1. UT stunted the gap a few times and stopped us, but we also ran over them a few times as well as made a nice pass. We may need to be more creative on those plays or at least do a better job with blocking schemes for that dive play on short yardage situations when the Defense can take more chances stunting.

Blocking has been very good. Pickens needs to improve on route running

I like what I've seen overall. Every week is more learning and practice for the new guys, but both Pickens and Blaylock are progressing.
Guys who were basically freshmen or redshirts last season (Robertson, K. Jackson) have also done some good things.
Landers remains a little puzzling. Could be on the verge of really good but maybe he'll be passed by others. I had high hopes for the kid from Texas (Bush) but wondering if he's going to be a medical redshirt this season with the groin injury. Is he even practicing?
We've now got another two games that we shouldn't have to stress over as much, so it's again more time for this unit.
Just really glad we got Cager, since he's stepped up as the seasoned veteran for us.
I also think we could make more use of Cook as a slot receiver.
