If F, should he be fired for 0/4?

He should, but he probably won’t.

I'm just wondering where the line is for some folks.
0/4 imo would get a pink slip because you know he's fricked next year too. 1/4 would be pushing it but I'd fire him if there was a good candidate interested.

That’s the problem for most folks. There’s some good coaches out there. Could Auburn land one?

It's a fair question. Tell a coach you're guaranteed a path to the playoff every year.... You just have to beat LSU, UGA, and UA. That is brutal.

4 losses and you're gone
Mediocrity shouldn't be acceptable

I don’t think he is worth what we are paying him, but I don’t think we fire him for going 3-3 against top 25 teams or even 2-4. I can’t name anybody else available who is worth paying Gus’s buyout plus a new salary.

Auburn has every resource to be right there. Just have to have the right guy at the helm.

Would LSU accept 4 losses a year? They fired Les Miles after winning 10 plus wins for years and a natty.

And they took a big risk firing him. But you either take a risk or remain where you’re at.
thUGA fired Richt, who also won 10+ games almost every year. But people here are afraid to fire a guy who goes 8-5 almost every year.

Hell, just win 2 outta 3 and you're in the playoff. *As long as you don't shite the bed in the SEC Championship*

Gus could have finally given us an end of the season/offseason without hot seat rumors but he went full Gus and here we are again

We have to beat LSU and Alabama now to make it and hope they also drop a game if we lose to UGA.
We pretty much have to go 3/3 now.
Eta:. I thought about this more. LSU needs to lose to UF and beat Alabama. That's the most feasible way for us to win 2/3 and go to Atlanta and still lose to UGA.

Once again the fire Gus starts up. Who should we hire. I ask this question often and have never got a legitimate response

Since you’re responding to me, I’ll give you a few names:
Luke Fickell I think would be outstanding, but he’s never coached outside the state of Ohio.
Dave Aranda would be good too. Great defensive coach and recruiter.
Bill Clark at UAB. Excellent coach.
Bob Stoops might be a pipe dream, but I’d give it a shot.

He stays if we lose all 4. Buyout remains a lot of money and there are no prime candidates out there that would come to Auburn, and, right now, they'd do just as good as Gus. No one except a really risky up n comer would come here right now. Only person I could see saying yes is Kiffin, and that's futile.
Gus stays and we hope he can keep recruiting only behind the titans, maybe finding a transfer/JUCO gem every few years, put us in the SEC title game once every five years, and in contention for a natty once every ten. We aren't tOSU, Bama, Clemson, Oklahoma, etc. We just aren't. We're a top 20 team but not a top 5 team. Historically as well. And we will never recruit like they can.
Gus's biggest concern needs to be recruiting OL where we've been way below avg. I bet if our OL were all high 4*s right now, we would've blown them out today and have been a me to run like 2013. Declining OL talent has been his biggest problem since he's been head coach, bigly.
Just wish he would add a few plays to the playbook: throw short over the middle to the slot on drags, RB dumps, recruit a 6'6 TE safety valve like Notre Dame has. It's what young Bo needs to get comfortable when the bubbles are covered, and always throwing out far towards the numbers and slow developing deep routes way past the sticks with DL closing in is tough against a good D. He needs quick passes that aren't way the frick by the sidelines or bubbles.
Sidebar: Thinking tonight, I think Gus is bad on the road in loud stadiums because the offense can't get his play audibles communicated in time after they hurry up to the LOS and Gus/Dilly read the defense and signal it in. Just hit me. It'll be a problem in Red Stick.

Wtf was Clemson before Dabo? A top 50 program, maybe???
I don't buy this shite. We can compete for championships every year. We just have to find the right guy to lead us.
We owe Gus $49M over 7 years. Whether we space it out till the end of the deal or fire him and pay it all tomorrow, AU/Boosters still will spend $49M.

That hurt to read, but it’s not wrong. Counterpoint - even Clemson wasn’t Clemson not so long ago. Took Dabo several years to build that program. And he has the luxury of coasting through the regular season in the ACC.
To answer OP question, 1/4 won’t get him fired. That’s a 9-3 season with a true freshman QB. It’ll upset factions of the fan base, but unless this season goes full blown 2012, I don’t see Gus going anywhere.
