If I might ask, how old are you? This isn't a slight against you, I just want to see if you were cognizant of what was going on in the early-00s when we got put on probation for Albert Means. The reason why so many of us are enjoying this is because of what went down in Memphis all those years ago. Yes, we had a rogue booster pay $180,000 for the services of Albert Means. That is beyond dispute. What is also beyond dispute is that Tennessee was attempting to buy Means as well - a major NCAA violation in its own right. The Vols were granted immunity by the NCAA in exchange for their testimony (given anonymously) against Alabama. Fulmer was a secret witness in all of this craziness.
Everything that has happened to Tennessee since 2008 is karma for what went down from 2000-02. I wish their program nothing but mediocrity for the rest of my life. Snitches get stitches. The rivalry should never die. This is their punishment for what they did to us and I am happy to watch my team deliver to them once a year from now until the end of time.

Whoever replaces Saban will inherit a gold mine. Les Miles was one of the dumbest (luckiest) coaches in the SEC but he had the talent to will at least 10 games a season for many years because with Saban's recruits they were the most talented team in the country.

Younger than you, thankfully.
I'm happy to join the army of Alabama alums who went to school in years where Tennessee was an 8-win team at best.
Here's hoping playoff expansion blows the rivalry up once and for all. The only people that care about it are folks 40 years old and up, that still have a stick up their arse about fat Phil. Well, unless he's coaching, I don't give a rip about that blob, or this game. They're Ole Miss, if Ole Miss actually didn't give us a headaches in the past 5 years.
The past 10+ years, AU and LSU are the only schools that have raised the hair on my arms. Since Terrance Cody blocked that kick in 2009, this rivalry is dead.
If you hated Tennessee so much, you should hope that is the case as well. The only breath that program has is that it's still attached as a rival to the New York Yankees of college football. Wouldn't you want to rip that away from them? The standing-next-to-a-pretty-girl syndrome?
This has nothing to do with our winning streak. Hell we are going on #9 this year with LSU. This has to do with the fact I don't want to attach our beautiful brand of dominance to them.
Knoxville is lame as hell. At least BR has loose women and great food.

If this Bama rivalry is giving them a sense of relevance, they should ask for their money back. Nothing short of winning again will do that.
LSU went nuclear because of the natty and the Saban bowl. Georgia is probably heading there if they keep winning.
If and when Tennessee can get back on their horse, this rivalry can get as nasty and mean spirited as any. Kinda like just before coach Saban got here.
In the meantime, curb-stomping the vols seems like a good enough past time until they make it back from the wilderness.

It goes beyond that. Tee Martin was getting paid in checks and wire transfers by self-proclaimed Tennessee booster Diane Sanford. She didn't deny any of it but because Fulmer helped them get Bama not one single thing happened.
Let them burn.
Edited to add: It is worth noting that Means didn't get one cent from Alabama. He was being pimped out to the highest bidder by his coach and almost certainly had no idea what was happening. Martin, on the other hand, got direct cash payments.

I became a Bama fan during Fran's first year and I still remember Paul Finebaum reporting the ncaa's sanctions against us for the Means fiasco. There were reports of celebration in Knoxville when the news was aired.
Fulmer promised Bama would be out of business but he's the wakeup call Bama got for the state of football during those days. Bama committed to serious upgrading facilities, etc. (we were mid-tier at best during those days) and the "Bama HC needs to be a Bryant man" crowd finally stfu after Dubose exposed himself for being a buffoon.

Actually, the amount of $180k is in dispute. Certainly under 100k. But the essence of what you are saying stands. Fulmer and Kramer were quite a pair.

What rankles the most of all that, is the fact that other schools including Tennessee had boosters doing the same thing with Means, but Fulmer turned "state's" evidence and the Vols skated. I will always enjoy beating Tennessee far more than even Auburn. Is it the most important game on the schedule at the moment? Nah. But the hate runs really, really deep.

Phil Fulmer is a sub-species with the moral compass of Jack the Ripper. From his successful take over of the HC job that he stabbed Johnny Major's in the back to attain to the phat one still manipulating the same divide BOT to stab the acting AD, John Currie in the same backside. He's not anything if not predictable. And that's the same Currie that had their next coach in Mike Leach ready to fly into Knoxville.
Instead, the vols get the next version of Fulmer's obsession with being like Alabama. Kinda ironic when you think about it.

The SEC commissioner-Roy Kramer told all the schools but Alabama to stay away from Means. He and Fat boy were in it together. Both were working to get us.
