ESPN came out with a list of their top 150 teams in college football:

Bama has 2 in the top 10...don't agree with every pick but, as lists go, think it's a pretty good 'un...
SEC teams that made the cut:

2011 Alabama would have demolished 2010 Auburn. That defense would have had Cam Newton running for his life.

i wouldnt argue with that '71 nebraska team being number one. i remember they destroyed bama and musso in the orange bowl.
but whoever put that together sure does hate nick saban and bama in general. oh and it's obvious they love dabo, ranking '18 clemson that high. oh well...

That '71 Nebraska team was one of the best I've seen; saw 'em play the best 'Game of the Century' against a great Oklahoma team and then watched 'em destroy us in the Orange Bowl. I think that's the only team that can claim victories against teams that finished #2, #3, and #4 in the final poll. The '95 Nebraska team is the only team that I might put over them...
Don't know that they love Dabo, just think they're recognizing the first team that went 15-0 in the modern era with a dominating win over another team ranked in the top 150...
As for Saban, they do have his only undefeated team in the top 10; kind of surprised they left off the 2017 team, but I think the rest of his national championship teams and 1-loss non-champion teams are rated. They've got 7 of his teams in the top 150 and the only other coach to match that total is the Bear (he had 7 as well). I tend to think Saban's best team was 2015 as the schedule was brutal that year, ranked as one of the toughest ever as far as SOS goes...

I tend to agree that 09 was probably not the best team. I'd rank 'em:

2015 played by far the toughest schedule of his championship teams. 2009 probably had the next best SOS as they ended up beating the teams that finished #2 and #3 in the final polls. 2012 had the best OL (maybe in history).
I'm not as high on the 2011 team as most fans. They had great talent on D but we didn't play any teams with a highly ranked offense: Arkansas was #29 in total offense and the next best O we faced was Mississippi State at #84. I recall Donta Hightower saying the best offense he faced that season was Georgia Southern (and they were an FCS team).

The difficulty in defending that isn't because it's a hard offense to defend, it's because nobody wants to spend time on it.
Georgia Tech is a good example of what happens when people are ready.

No they did not.
GS ran a triple-option attack, Nebraska (at least in ‘95) ran an I-bone attack.

Then how do you explain the success that Alabama and Oklahoma had in the seventies? Both schools ran it for 10+ years and both had multiple national championships running it...and it was in an era when many schools were running it so lots of defenses spent time on it...it was hard enough to defend that it took defenses about 10 to 15 years to figure it out...

Yet they won an ACC title running it and competed for several others at an academic school with mostly 3-star recruits. Army and Navy, both coached by Paul Johnson disciples, have done very well running that offense because, when executed well with disciplined athletes, it’s hard to defend...

They were similar offenses; Nebraska ran the triple option out of the I-formation while Georgia Southern ran the triple option from a formation similar to the wishbone.

Doesn't mean it can't still be effective...that's why the service academies and some smaller schools still run it. It allows them to be more competitive with lesser talent against the bigger schools.
The Wing-T is even an older offense, I think dating back to the thirties; many high schools today run some form of it, as well as some colleges. I read where Malzahn's offense at Auburn is a variation of the Wing-T.

That 09 Bama team was unstoppable. I know other Saban teams were better on paper but the momentum of the 09 Bama team was unreal and the vibe on campus at the time was electric.
