That is why all time list and rankings are fun, but really doesn't show much. ND really hasn't been relevant, despite playing for a NC in 12. The window of relevancy is only really a 15 year window to show the "hand grenade" group and the achievers.

USCs home stadium isn’t the rose bowl.

Individual awards, not team/program.

Which means they'd be leading by even more had USC been their usual selves.

I don’t have a problem with the list. There are a lot of teams resting on much earlier performances.

Not that the list is inaccurate.

Winsipedia goes by claimed national titles.
They also penalize Penn State for being 95th in conference titles even though they were independent until 93.

Historically USC has benefitted from an uneven national footprint. They have more Heismans because their players got more attention. They have so many titles because they had so many supporters among writers than teams in the south. That having been said, they're not to blame for having those advantages. They took it and ran and more power to them.

This list goes back a long ways. Fans of teams with more recent success are salty because it feels like their programs have the history of some other schools when reality is very different.

The methodology is sound IMO. It reflects both on the teams' winning tradition, the impact they've had on the CFB landscape, and the impact those players have had on football in general. Every metric they use is valid (even though the lack of Heismans due to a lower national profile than ND, USC, and OSU really hurts Bama).

The list is flawed the way the history of CFB is flawed. Within that framework, however, it's completely fair.

Princton and Yale are still at the top. You can't cherry pick eras to fit your narrative.

Why can't Auburn posters understand that this is not his list?

quote:

UGA, LSU, and UT have never had a dominate timeframe that would establish them as top 10 programs.

Which is what makes us top programs. Consistency. A bad year here and there, but typically very good years.

Why don't you just come out and say what is really on your mind? you are chapped because Auburn was rated below those schools.

Honestly? As close as Auburn is to georgia in overall history, I would say you have a complaint. But don't come on here and try to mask what is really making you upset. It just makes you look petty.

10 seems right. I can't believe Nebraska and Tennessee are still so high?

Because both had several decades of really good teams. People only remember the highest points and wonder where those times went or conversely you look at the lowest points and think that's the new forever state but for a very long time both put solid teams over and over and over again. Those teams weren't their dominant runs but they were good teams that won a lot of games.

Alabama is second in all-time wins
Alabama is first in national titles won

Game set match....

By the way, there are different sites that will say

Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and USCw are the top program........

By the way, this stopped after 2015, but Alabama has added even more to their lead..

While I really do agree with you and I hate ND with a passion....they did make the playoffs last year.

Now, part of that mystique stems from the media over hyping them every year. Their performance in big bowl games, National Championship games and the playoffs tend to make your point correct.

But...this supposedly looks at program over the entirety of football history within reason. Obviously Yale and some of those won their "championships" when they were playing only 4-5 games a year.
