Integration. Kind of a big deal.

I'm still not exactly sure how or why UK claims this.
-UGA was 5-1 in conference, UK was 4-2
-UGA beat kentucky 31-7
-UGA also had a better overall record and finished higher if those factored in at all
Like I can't imagine a single reason for them to claim '76.

UK doesn't "claim" it. The SEC awarded them a trophy and it's listed in the media guide.

but why?

Because they finished with the same conference record after MSU forfeited their win over UK.

The University of Florida does not claim this championship. The Pell years were good and bad for UF, but the aftermath from Pell did cost us 1990 as well. It had zero to do with Spurrier.
I get that, and kudos to Florida for not counting it. Unfortunately programs sometime suffer for the sins of former coaches. Everybody has their share of things to be proud of and things to not be so proud of.
My statement was not meant as an attack on Florida, so much as the poster (Who was not a Florida fan, I might add) that said it should be counted because they won the games on the field.
Again, I get the sentiment, but the thinking was wrong, imo. It's either that or we have to count every vacated game and championship.

From 1971 until 2000 LSU won 2 sec titles.

I didn't know that, thanks. Still think it's dumb considering the head to head but that at least makes "sense".

You can but it want count. Before 1972 it did count. Bama won several SEC championships by playing that game. As a previous poster stated Georgia and Auburn kept playing their old SEC rival. Since Dodd refused to play Alabama , Alabama picked up an 8th SEC game usually against the likes of Vanderbilt, Kentucky, or Miss St who they beat like yard dogs. In 1972 both Auburn and Alabama lost 1 SEC game and Auburn beat them in a head-to head Punt-Bama-Punt game . But Alabama was awarded the SEC championship because they scheduled and extra game each year. After a huge blow up at the SEC meeting the following year by several teams, the SEC said only 7 games count. Now the ruleing is only 8 games count.

Head to head didn't matter. Same thing in 88.

If only on the field counted then Auburn won the SEC championship in 1993 as well as the MNC that year. Auburn is also the 2004 MNC since the BCS was vacated.

TIL that Auburn played in the 93 SECCG and 05 Orange Bowl BCSCG.

Ummm....didn't USC win it on the field in 2004?
But....no. If you are on probation you don't get a title, and if a title is vacated, you don't automatically inherit it. ESPECIALLY if you didn't even play in the title game.
FWIW, though, I think Auburn got rooked on that deal. Auburn should have been in the game.
ETA
Korin beat me to it.

You are a CLOWN to not include Arkansas' FOURTEEN conference Titles. How you cant see that that is VERY different from , say, Mizzou, who hasnt won a conference title in 50 years shows your biased or retarded (being a gump, it's probably both).
a-hole. Should be #2 on that list.
What? Arkansas has never won a SEC title, much less 14.
You did notice the thread title, didn't you?

in re: Tulane. This is true. And they would likely be a tough team to deal with now had the stayed in the SEC. Tons of talent in NOLA. And with SEC exposure, some of these kids would stay and play. Instead of building that small on campus Stadium, they would likely have continued playing in the DOME. And with SEC talent, SEC teams coming to the Dome, Tulane would have been an interesting story.
