Unless Nebraska does a complete 180, Bama becomes the new #1 this season.

Alabama is missing 29 victories from that overall total. Factor in the forfeits from 1993 and the vacated wins from 2005-2007, and Alabama's overall record for the last six decades would be 573-163-11.

You can have your 29 wins you cheated for and we'll claim the 93 title. Deal

Why should you get rewarded for not playing in a bowl game when undefeated Nebraska and undefeated West Virginia had to in order to stake a claim to #1?

It’s crazy how hard Nebraska has fallen.

Any ideas on the reason for this?

Built on steroids and a shady "walk-on" program in 70's and 80's and then non qualifiers in the 90's.

Why do you guys claim Arkansas' national championship?

What's really crazy is how both Nebraska and Tennessee have fallen. Then again, 60 years ago I remember when Minnesota was a powerhouse. Tulane was a big time football program and everyone thought Arkansas was about to be the king of the hill under Broyles for decades to come. Spook Murphy was at Memphis State.

they were still dominant/elite in the 90s. When Osborne retired they were obviously going to take a hit, although solich kept them respectable and still ran the option. When he was let go they had a string of like 5 HCs that were all mostly garbage and they stopped running the option.

The downfall of Nebraska happened when they left the Big 12. They lost a huge recruiting area (Texas). The plains states are not very fertile recruiting grounds, combine that with the fact that Nebraska is a cold weather state and you see the picture. The only northern states that have any real numbers of recruits are Ohio and Penn, and there are lots of big time programs closer to those recruits.
Nebraska is headed toward the dustbin of college football unless they somehow rejoin a warm weather conference.

They were dominant because they were the only Big 12 team taking non qualifiers.
They lost around 7 bowl games in a row in the late 80's early 90's and Osborne made a conscious effort bring in high risk guys to catch up with the FSU's and Miami's of the CFB world.
