“We have to do our do diligence,” Chris said. “We gave our word that we would take those visits so we need to give them their fair shot.”
If someone said that to me, and I was pitching a deal (or on an interview), I would feel pretty good that I was going to get that deal/job. Not 100% sure, but would feel like I was the leader at the time

These two things are nowhere near the same thing. And they've made similar comments about each school they visit... I have no idea where he'll end up but certainly wouldn't read into post visit comments with the idea that you've somehow landed a dominant position in the recruitment.
