Players adjust their contact based on leniency of refs and then refs decide to get strict

At the end of the game.
Neither AU nor UVA was in the bonus until late because the refs were letting them play. But then at the end a ref decides to interject himself and decide the game.
Either call stuff all night or don’t. For both teams.

This wasn’t a Ticky tack foul on the floor that the refs could have let go. This was a body into the shooter before the ball leaves his hand. It was a foul.

I don’t disagree it was a foul but either call it all night or don’t. This deciding to get strict on the game winning shot is what is ticky tacky IMO.

I’ll support you if you can give a couple examples of the same foul not being called throughout the game. If a body goes into the shooter out in the open on a 3, it usually gets called. Under the goal can get missed because of all the bodies in there.

It was a foul, but you'd hope the ref swallows the whistle in that scenario. They do 99.9% of the time.
However, the game was lost on poor shooting and UVA deserves credit in that regard. It sucks the refs missed a call that was the difference between Auburn winning and losing, but at the end of the day refs miss calls.

Refs didn’t screw Auburn. Get over it.

We had some uncharacteristic turnovers forcing the dribble into a crowd.
We allowed several cuts to basket.
We missed shots.
If we play better, end does not matter.
It was a foul. Dude drained all three and had made a brilliant 3 with 15 seconds left.
The double dribble was missed.
It is what it is.

quote:A foul before the double dribble was missed. Brown intentionally grabbed Jerome’s jersey as instructed by Pearl. Refs held their whistle, allowing more clock to run before they called the next foul. The refs helped Auburn, and they still choked.
The double dribble was missed.

Here’s an aubie fan who tells it like it is. Very well said.

Agreed.
At the end of the day, we did not get it done.
Lots of missed opportunities and poor execution.
Credit to Virginia for making plays.

Whining does not lead to winning.
I thought we over achieved this year.
It was a fun ride.
Down 10 and played our way to a chance to advance.
I’m disappointed, but not depressed.
Nobody died.

Refs helped Auburn by not calling the foul in the backcourt? This your first basketball game? Auburn was trying to foul there for a reason.

Read this carefully:
Brown grabbed Jerome's jersey with 4.0 left. No call.
The refs did call a foul with 1.5 left.
What's better in that situation if you're Auburn:
- up by 2 with 4.0 left
- up by 2 with 1.5 left
The refs did Auburn a favor, and Auburn choked.
This your first basketball game?

Not a fan of Auburn or Bruce but that failure to call the double dribble was as bad a miss as I’ve ever seen and cost them the game. I was in a bar watching the end with the wife and immediately said to her “ the guy just double dribbled ball game”.

quote:False. If correctly called, Brown is assessed a foul at 4.0, and no double dribble happens.
