It’s tough to compare with how offense and defense has changed even since then.

2016 Bama. 21 NFL draft picks and held 7 teams without a touchdown, beat 8 Top 25 teams prior to the playoff, and won 11 of the 14 games by 3+ touchdowns.

Here's a list of what that defense looks like today. Updated in January

CB Marlon Humphrey - 1st round, 2017 Draft, Starting CB for the Baltimore Ravens

CB Minkah Fitzpatrick - 1st round, 2018 Draft, Starting CB for the Miami Dolphins

SS Ronnie Harrison - 3rd round, 2018 Draft, Starting SS for the Jacksonville Jaguars

FS Eddie Jackson - 4th round, 2017 Draft, Starting FS for the Chicago Bears

OLB - Ryan Anderson - 2nd round, 2017 Draft, Rotational player on the Washington Redskins' deep DL

ILB - Rashan Evans - 1st round, 2018 Draft, Starting LB for the Tennessee Titans

ILB - Reuben Foster - 1st round, 2017 Draft, will eventually be a starting LB for the Washington Redskins

OLB - Tim Williams - 3rd round, 2017 Draft, Rotational player for Baltimore Ravens when healthy

DE - Jonathan Allen - 1st round, 2017 Draft, Starting DE for Washington Redskins

DT - DaRon Payne - 1st round, 2018 Draft, Starting DT for Washington Redskins

DE - Dalvin Tomlinson - 2nd round, 2017 Draft, Starting DE for New York Giants

I mean outside of Mississippi State and Alabama, that offense was pretty dominant as well. But Alabama struggled with Mississippi State that year as well. Not a surprise considering some future NFL players were on that team. States offense just wasn't good enough to win games that season.

I think so. LSU and Bama were both so dominant that year.

LSU I believe had 7-8 top 25 wins and 4 top 5 wins with a undefeated season and a win over a great Bama team at their house. Going into the rematch talk was if this team was in the talk as the best season ever. Having to play Bama twice was a curse that has lived on from that day. A amazing team with a amazing storyline .

What do you mean? Doesn’t Bama claim this as a championship team? Of course they do or will.

I'm not including teams that lost in the title game. Here were some really good ones:

1998 Ohio State
1999 Nebraska
2000 Miami
2001 Florida and Tennessee
2004 Auburn
2006 LSU
2008 USC
2012 Oregon
2015 Ohio State

We'll claim whatever we want. You don't have to like it.

2016 Bama was the best team to ever not take home that trophy, though.

Spurrier's most talented team. Still probably would've got blown out by Miami though.

I do not have the time or desire. I'm sure the info is out there somewhere.

It's actually listed as 3rd.

2016 Alabama definitely should be higher, maybe even 1st but idk because 2005 USC was pretty beastly. I think the top 3 is some form of that team, that USC team, and 2011 LSU.

I find it weird that they include multiple teams for the same year.

And UCF and Okie St. shouldn't be there. Both would have been destroyed by both teams in the championship game in their respective years.

Not too far behind Bama in numbers, but lacking first round picks.
