How much will this impact Duke's ability to recruit top talent to its basketball team?

Thomas, the whistleblower, will get $33.75 million from the settlement, the government said.

Duke is still dealing with a different research scandal dating back more than a decade. Duke medical professor Dr. Anil Potti engaged in misconduct while researching treatments in human cancer patients, U.S. Health and Human Services Department investigators said in 2015. Potti's studies were published in top medical journals including the New England Journal of Medicine and Lancet Oncology between 2006 and 2009.

Fake classes at North Carolina for 20 years and now decades of fake research at Duke. I’ll take plain old SEC athletic cheating any day. At least we’re not robbing the taxpayers blind.

Duke is a private school.

Not sure how it totally works but I assume that it doesn’t get state funding.
Could be different here

I would never divorce my wife of 43 years as she lying in bed slowly wasting away before my eyes from stage 4 lung cancer. Now as you lay your head down tonight think on that and pray we never meet.

Duke depends on federal research grant money to stay open. Federal grants are taxpayer dollars. Schools like Duke, Vandy, Stanford and other elite private schools would shrivel up and blow away without the billions of dollars of public money grants they get every year.

Gawd yes. The 20 universities getting the most money from the federal government. 10 of those schools get at least 1 billion dollars each every year. They get far more taxpayer money than so called public universities.

R&D at:

Clemson - $193 million, ranks 111.
South Carolina - $262 million, ranks 89.
UK - $378 million, ranks 62.

Why is that? Politics, my man, politics.

If we changed these numbers around would it mean more Football wins?
