Saban has had this happen twice, both times in the Sugar Bowl. Once against Utah and once against Oklahoma. Alabama was light years better than both of those teams but they had higher goals and didn't reach them and as a result, those teams didn't give a shite about the consolation prize game. Kirby isn't Saban, but the same logic applies.

An SEC title, a playoff win over the Heisman trophy winner, a national title game appearance, and a fourth quarter collapse from another playoff appearance is nothing to sneeze at. People act like he has the same accomplishments as Jim Donnan. Mullen would give his left nut to have the same level of success in his first three seasons at Florida.

IMO, Kirby is too much of a control freak with the offense. He won't get a top notch OC because he doesn't want to give anyone full autonomy yet, for some reason. Because of this, we've seen Georgia take their foot off the gas twice against Alabama and lose two score leads because of it. That's my only real criticism of him after three seasons.

Dabo didn't take off at Clemson until he hired Chad Morris and gave him full control of the offense.
