Kyriq Mcdonald was sort of forced into the transfer portal due to weed issues.

From my own personal experiences at UA with several former players who loved themselves some weed, getting forced out for weed takes an incredible amount of stupidity from the player... He was probably going to get himself kicked out if he didn't transfer so this probably was for the best.

Saban also highly coveted Kyle Flood as OL coach (who some of the people I listen to really DON'T like, but the man who counts really does, apparently), which Sark was going to be able to bring with him.

Flood still has a terrible resume as an OL coach and has some real, knowledgeable detractors (along with some really vocal supporters, like Cubelic), just have to have faith that Saban is making the right choice after clearly making some bad decisions with his hires last year.

Yeah, idk, we obviously still win at a historical level and put up a lot of points, but it's probably fair to say that Saban's eye for offensive assistants is a little spotty. Our supposedly encouraging several of the offensive assistants to leave over the years kind of acknowledges that. I wouldn't hold out hope that Saban's seeing something almost everyone else is missing in Flood so much as I would just hope that Flood couldn't be bad enough to absolutely wreck anything.

Flood had just received a promotion by Atlanta, so they must have liked him. Im sure Sark is the one that recommended him to Saban, though.

He’s been pretty consistent on hiring OL coaches. Some have come with glowing recommendations, others were questioned. But all have seemingly worked out well.
